Yamaha Wabash RT E-Bike Review, 2024

Jan 2024 · John S. Bozick

This powerful, well-crafted e-bike makes gravel riding accessible and fun! With a name that means “water flowing over white rocks,” it would only be right that the Wabash RT would be Yamaha’s fluid, responsive gravel e-bike. We were impressed after reviewing the brand’s CrossCore RC city/commuter e-bike, so we had high expectations from this offering.

Highs
  • An analog cycling experience at all power levels thanks to the remarkably natural-feeling 250W PW Series ST mid-drive motor with torque, speed, cadence, and slope sensors.

  • Covers tons of miles or time between charges with an efficient motor and 36V, 500 Wh battery.

  • Great steering control and stability from the wide 44cm flared drop bars.

  • The bike felt planted yet agile, with its grippy 700c x 45 mm tires and 48-lb total weight.

  • An easy, seamless Auto Assist setting responds intuitively to give more power when pedaling harder.

  • Responsive shifting, a flexible gearing range, and solid stopping power from the Shimano GRX groupset.

  • Easily keeps up with traffic due to its Class 3 speeds of up to 28 mph.

  • Ride with less concern for flats after converting the tubeless-ready rims and Maxxis Rambler tires.

  • Trust your purchase with a 3-year warranty that covers the motor, battery, and frame.

Lows
  • We liked the included dropper/suspension seatpost but found its lever position on the handlebar awkward to use. We’d prefer Shimano’s combination brake and dropper post lever.

  • It may seem nitpicky, but we hope to see improved cable management in the future to prevent paint wear on the head tube.

Yamaha Crosscore RC

Jan 2024

Yamaha is perhaps more well known for its motorbikes and as a general e-bike motor manufacturer. But more recently, the firm has begun to take e-mobility, and in particular, e-bikes a bit more seriously. This has resulted in the launch of some own branded bikes, including a rather intriguing looking step-through model called the Yamaha Booster Easy that Richard reviewed last year, and now, the CrossCore RC. The CrossCore RC is positioned as primarily an urban bike, but it can be so much more.

Yamaha Moro 07 e-MTB review

Dec 2023

The Yamaha Moro-07 is an e-mountain bike offering that's aimed at the all-mountain genre. There are aspects of this bike that deserve praise; the great build kit and motor at an extremely competitive price. But due to some strange geometry choices, among other aspects, the bike falls flat. Where it’s trying to pave its way in a marketplace that’s crowded with very good e-MTBs, the Moro-07 is an aspirational swing and a disappointing miss, holding it back from a rightful spot as one of the best electric mountain bikes.

Yamaha CrossCore RC Review, 2024

Dec 2023 · John S. Bozick

This intrepid long-hauler has the look of a commuter with the handling and feel of a lightweight city bike. It’s not every day that we, the reviewers at Electric Bike Report, have the opportunity to test an e-bike from a brand that’s nearly 70 years old. It’s equally uncommon for us to see an e-bike

Highs
  • Rides fast at Class 3 speeds up to 28 mph with a responsive and natural-feeling 36V, 250W mid-drive motor.

  • A 36V, 500 watt-hour battery that just won’t quit! Our range test results from the CrossCore RC were some of the best we’ve seen.

  • Quick, responsive steering and an agile feel thanks to the 640mm handlebars, 27.5”x2” tires, and mid-weight 53-lb frame.

  • Reliability, performance, and peace of mind from the full complement of name-brand parts – including a motor and battery from Yamaha.

  • Easy to use with four standard PAS settings – plus an Auto mode for a “set it and forget it” experience.

  • Fuel up the battery in just 4 hours with a fast 3-amp charger.

  • It just looks cool! The bike has three uncommon color options and an eye-catching frame design.

Lows
  • We like that an integrated taillight can be added with the optional fenders but we’d also like to see brake light functionality for improved safety.

  • The bike’s display was simple to read and operate, but at this price point we’d like to see a color display with accurate range estimates and a percentage-based battery indicator.

Yamaha Booster Easy

Nov 2023

We have already taken a brief look at the The Yamaha Booster Easy, covering its launch earlier in the year and the fact that Yamaha now has a range of e-bikes for sale in the UK, including more conventional-looking urban, gravel and e-MTB models. It was the Booster Easy that caught my eye though, as with its combination of moped styling, striking spaceframe and 4" wide tyres, it looks quite unlike anything else I'd seen emerge from the e-bike world, which I've been covering for a good number of years. So I jumped at the chance to try one out.

Yamaha MORO-07 introduction & test ride

Sep 2023 · Knut Nes

Yamaha have been making ebikes for years. They created the first electric pedal assist motor all the way back in 1989, years before the rise of the ebike as we know it today. When the electric full suspension mtbs started appearing, Yamaha and...
