Summary
The Specialized Turbo Tero is a versatile cross-country e-bike designed for all-around use, from commuting to light trail riding. It features smooth power delivery, intuitive handling, and a comfortable ride, though some models may have noisy motors or basic suspension. With features like dropper posts, modular mounts, and long battery range, it aims to be a jack-of-all-trades.
Versatile for various terrains and uses
Smooth and intuitive handling
Long battery range and efficient power delivery
Comfortable ride with features like dropper posts and large wheels
High-quality build and attention to detail
Heavy and bulky design
Noisy or sluggish motor in some models
Basic suspension performance on lower-end builds
Compromises in comfort and agility on technical trails
High cost and limited nimbleness
The ride feel is smooth, easy and intuitive, inspiring confidence.
We see it more as a trekking bike that can handle moderate off-road terrain when necessary.
It’s one of the best ebikes I’ve tested.
It's very much a jack of all trades. The Gear Loop

Want one bike that will both get you to work in the city and let you hit the local singletrack on the weekend? When the Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 showed up at the office for review, we found ourselves asking: how are we going to handle this bike? At first glance, it’s an obvious
Extremely versatile: can be ridden as a Class 3 commuter, for bike packing adventures, AND on XC single track
Natural riding experience, thanks to the custom-tuned Specialized 2.0 motor
Very comfortable as a commuter, and comes set up with fenders + mounting options for a wide array of additional commuting/bike packing accessories
Handles well on cross country single track trails – better than we expected and we didn’t even take off the fenders
Great app performance with the Mission Control app and Mastermind TCD controller
Great range: we got 73.75 miles on ECO, averaging around 14.3 mph.
You can choose the power/components you want across the various Tero X models
As with the Turbo Vado, the magnetic charger is a little hard to seat when you go to charge the bike
The fenders rattled just a little bit on the XC trails – it would be nice to have a way to easily remove the fenders

California's Specialized Bicycles has released a new All-terrain eBike in the Turbo Tero X with a big range and appetite for adventure.

Great news! The new Specialized Tero X is not a bike full of the latest innovation costing €18.000! No, this is a much cheaper bike that only comes with an aluminium frame. Check out the video to hear me talk about the bike, or keep reading...

A sweet-riding machine at its heart, but hampered by a lesser component spec and dull power delivery
Handling is neutral
Immediately easy to ride and steer
Gearing range doesn’t match the motor requirements for a faster cadence to operate properly

Price: $5800.00 | Model Year: 2022 | A feature-complete hardtail cross country electric mountain bike outfitted with outstanding fenders, rear rack, and integrated lights available in four frame sizes and three trim levels (3.0, 4.0, 5.0). Capable as a commuting platform and light off-road machine thanks to knobby 29er tires and high-end hydraulic brakes.
A feature-complete hardtail cross country electric mountain bike outfitted with outstanding fenders, rear rack, and integrated lights available in four frame sizes and three trim levels (3.0, 4.0, 5.0). Capable as a commuting platform and light off-road machine thanks to knobby 29er tires and high-end hydraulic brakes.
Excellent weight distribution and electronics integration. Lightweight, smooth, responsive Brose motor (custom made with Specialized) offers up 70nm of torque and is highly tunable with Mission Control smartphone app. Internally routed cables stay out of the way and look great.
Outstanding battery pack shape and mounting design, there's no need for a separate cover that adds weight and complexity, removal feels safe despite exiting downwards from the downtube. Magnetic charging interface is convenient and durable, fast charger is compact and capable. TCD2 MasterMind color display can be dimmed, beeps and haptics can be disabled, you can even customize readouts or remove screens.
Above-average suspension fork with 110mm travel, compression, lockout, preload, and rebound adjustability. High-visibility reflective sticker and integrated lights (which can be turned off) keep you safe. USB-C charging port on display helps maintain portable electronics. Dropper seat post makes the bike approachable and Body Geometry touch points feel great (to me). Pointy kickstand, less immediate power from standstill, front fender that clips curbs and bike racks, high price, limited availability, no equipped models in North America are the drawbacks.
