Summary
The Specialized Turbo Kenevo is a downhill e-bike that excels in technical terrain and descents, offering a plush ride with its 180mm travel suspension and dual-crown fork. Its motor assist enhances climbing efficiency without the need for suspension adjustments, though its weight can be a drawback. The bike is praised for its balanced handling, sturdy build, and innovative features like easy battery swaps.
180mm travel suspension for plush ride
Motor assist enhances climbing efficiency
Balanced handling and sturdy build
Easy battery swap trailside
Dual-crown fork for downhill capability
Heavy weight
Battery theft risk with hex tool
Expensive starting price
Brakes may lack power for hard riding
After the Levo got more capable, it left the Kenevo too close in abilities so Specialized went back to the drawing board to make the bike even more capable.
The new Turbo Kenevo Expert breaks the ebike mould.
This is an extremely sturdy and overbuilt setup, thanks to points of interest like this X bar frame design, the super wide 34.9mm seat post, and through axles in not just the wheels, but even the battery housing.
The Specialized Turbo Kenevo Expert is much more than just a downhill bike with a motor.
Specialized has raised the bar with the latest Kenevo Expert.

The Specialized S-Works Turbo Kenevo SL works its magic in many different ways, but at the root of them all is its superb blend of stability and agility.
Can hang with the best enduro bikes on the descents and leave them for dead on the climbs. Unobtrusive motor accentuates the positives. Six unique geometry settings
Battery can’t be removed easily. Limited seat post insertion. It’s a decent deposit on a house.

Does fitting an e-road motor to an Enduro beast work? We test the Specialized Turbo Kenevo SL Expert on the steepest and sketchiest trails to find out
Excellent, easily adjustable geometry
Full DH suspension feel
Light weight
Smoothly useable power
Excellent displays and app
High cost
Limited seatpost adjustment
Weedy tires
Stem is too long
Battery is fixed in DIY terms

The Kenevo SL might be very, very expensive, but it manages to bridge the gap between regular bike and full-blown e-MTB brilliantly. Seatpost insertion depth is an issue, but otherwise, this could well be the bike we’ve all been waiting for
Superb handling – more regular bike than e-MTB
Motor is smooth and Mission Control app adds adjustability
Great, adjustable geometry
Balanced, very capable suspension
The cost is seriously prohibitive (even the cheapest Comp model is £7k)
Not enough seatpost insertion depth and can’t get post low enough in the frame

SL vs Full Powered Kenevo

A few weeks ago I was invited to an incredible riding riding location to test a very interesting new bike. The new-to-me place was Port Angeles, home of the legendary “Underworld Cup” – a U.S. National race that happened each year around Sea Otter time and, due to its timing, attracted top World Cup talent. The bike is the all new Specialized Turbo Kenevo Super Light. Upon a quick glance it could almost pass for an Enduro – for good reason, as you can see. Building upon the Enduro’s new suspension framework, the wizards at Specialized managed to fit the

Want more laps? The Kenevo SL may just be your ticket.
Exceptionally balanced, descent orientated geometry.
Updated firmware smoothes out pedal assist / cut out.
Efficient transfer of power/efficency.
Agile and maneuverable descending
Active suspension platform keeps bike tracking straight.
Over-the-air firmware updates
Regardless of geometry adjustment, low bottom bracket/low hung weight increases pedal strikes.
200mm rear rotor poorly regulate heat / brake fade on long, demanding descents.
Specialized Roval Traverse wheels not keen on heavy use.

A purpose built, strong and sturdy, full suspension, all mountain with some enduro, agile and balanced with it’s 50/50 weight distribution, smooth and powerful mid-drive electric mountain bike

Brose S ALU mid-drive motor with plenty of power and 3 modes of assist, paired with hydraulic disc brakes and SRAM GX 11 speed derailleur
You can’t really dump gears quickly with the SRAM GX setup, the bike is an expensive investment, and the battery can be removed by anybody with the right sized hex tool

After a few days of pure XC and then all out Enduro riding, Specialized had something different in mind for our final day in Tahoe. This would not only be the longest ride of the week, but it would have the most climbing – and it would all be done on an e-bike with a …
