Summary

The Canyon Endurace is celebrated for its exceptional blend of speed and comfort, making it a standout in the endurance category. Its relaxed geometry, vibration dampening seatpost, and high-volume tires contribute to a smooth ride, while the aero-tweaked frame and stiff drivetrain ensure efficiency and performance. Despite some critiques about in-frame storage and cockpit adjustability, the Endurace offers great value and versatility across various terrains.

Pros
  • Relaxed geometry and vibration dampening seatpost for a comfortable ride

  • High performance for the price with aero-tweaked frame and stiff drivetrain

  • Adjustable bar width and flexible seatpost enhance versatility

Cons
  • In-frame storage is too small to be useful

  • Integrated cockpit makes changing stem length difficult

  • No mudguard fender eyelets

Key Quotes
Canyon’s updated Endurace has a brilliantly-smooth ride and is very well equipped for its price.
Bicycling
Canyon has tweaked the speed-comfort equation to near-perfection.
BikeRadar logoBikeRadar
The Endurace CFR is still a quick bike, it's stiff and fast, and the handling is excellent.

Canyon Endurace CF SLX 8 Review

Oct 2023

The Canyon Endurace CF SLX 8 combines race bike performance, endurance bike comfort, and a pretty remarkable price given the spec. The only thing holding this bike back is one or two proprietary features that may end up being more of a nuisance than a help.

Highs
  • Relaxed geometry and vibration dampening seatpost make for an extremely comfortable ride

  • Claimed clearance of up to 35mm tires, but may fit even wider

  • Inexpensive given the spec (SRAM Force AXS, Quarq power meter, carbon wheels)

Lows
  • In-frame storage is too small to be useful

  • Not compatible with a traditional stem

Highs
  • 38mm tire clearance

  • Aero efficiency near race bike level (209 watts system drag at 45km/h)

  • Adjustable PACE cockpit (50mm width, 20mm height adjust)

  • LOAD downtube storage

  • DEFEND Fast Fender compatibility

  • VCLS Aero seatpost on CF SLX for comfort and aero

  • VCLS 2.0 leaf-spring seatpost on CF for up to 20mm flex

  • Updated geometry with longer chainstays and wheelbase for stability

  • Shorter crank lengths (165mm on M, 160mm on smaller sizes)

  • New Canyon ED 42 CF wheels (42mm deep, 25mm internal, 33mm external, 1550g claimed, DT Swiss 350 hubs)

  • Aggressive pricing (CF 5 at $1,850, CF SLX 7 AXS at $4,350 with carbon wheels)

  • Carbon frame with 38mm clearance on both CF SLX and CF

Lows
  • PACE bar adjustments require tool; stem/headset changes are difficult

  • VCLS Aero seatpost less compliant than VCLS 2.0

  • CF SLX lacks VCLS 2.0 leaf-spring post (only on CF)

  • CF does not have aero seatpost

  • Integrated cockpit still limits adjustability compared to standard stems/bars
