First Ride | The Canyon Spectral AL 6.0 is a different beast to last year

Jul 2019

Looking to make it even more capable, Canyon has beefed up the suspension on its popular Spectral 27.5in trail bike for 2019. Compared to last year's version, the new Spectral gets a 160mm travel fork and 150mm out back, putting it into lightweight enduro territory. The question remains: is it a change for the better?

Highs
  • The lovely brushed alloy frame looks equally clean and industrial

  • High-quality Fox suspension package

  • Water bottle inside the mainframe

  • That tidy tool-free Quixle thru-axle

Lows
  • Seat tubes need to be shorter

  • Weight - this bike has a lot of it!

  • The Iridium dropper post lever is a little wiggly

  • Well thought out details like cable management system

Lows
  • Long 440mm seat tube height on the size medium

  • Ardent rear tire doesn't provide much traction

  • Not super plush in rough terrain

Canyon Spectral WMN CF 9.0 SL review

Sep 2018

Canyon's Spectral WMN CF 9.0 SL is the top flight trail bike for women but tweaks make it fundamentally different from the men’s mountain bike in terms of suspension, geometry and spec. Although the suspension is well tuned, conservative design makes it more of a cross-country machine than a true trail ripper.

Canyon's Spectral AL 6.0 is hard to beat, it rides well, is loaded with impressive specs and is priced less than the competition. Buy if you want one of the best deals in mountain biking and have the knowledge to make an informed buying decision

Highs
  • Insanely good specs for price, good ride quality, price

Lows
  • 35mm bars too harsh, not a lot of 2.6in tire options, possible lack of bike shop support
