Trek Madone Gen 8 SL7: First ride review

Jun 2024 · Peter Stuart

Trek's new Madone supersedes its aero champion and kills off the Emonda altogether - so is this one bike to rule them all?

Highs
  • Fantastic ride quality and comfort

  • Rigid in power transfer and handling

  • Stunningly light

  • A blisteringly fast bike

Lows
  • The accompanying water bottles may take some getting used to

Goodbye Emonda: Trek goes all-in with the new Madone Gen 8  - Escape Collective

Jun 2024 · Dave Rome

Trek’s latest generation Madone and now all-rounder road race bike. It replaces the pre-existing Madone SL and SLR, along with the Emonda carbon range.

Highs
  • Improved ride quality

  • Unapologetically a race bike

  • Unique looks

  • Easily adjustable stem height with efforts taken to simplify headset compatibility

  • Madone SL now lighter than previous SLR

  • And now equipped with appropriate tyre widths.

Lows
  • Still not the lightest option nor the most aero bike Trek could make

  • Trek’s own aero bottles are an integral part of the bike’s aero performance

  • Headset still lacks sealing.

Remembering the Trek Madone 9 Series road bike: a bit odd... but very cool

Nov 2023 · Mat Brett

It had its idiosyncrasies – including flip-out 'Vector Wings’ in the head tube – but we wish every new bike offered as many interesting features as the Trek Madone 9 Series did back in 2015

The seventh-generation Madone is an excellent all-round performer, but it comes with a big price tag

Highs
  • Composed yet fast

  • Innovative design

  • Front end can run both integrated and non-integrated handlebar setups

  • Wide range of frame sizes

Lows
  • Expensive

  • No power meter

  • Mid-range tyres and cheap inner tubes don’t belong on this bike
