Over the course of the year we’ve ridden a lot of different bikes and as we narrowed down those bikes to the eight tested here in our Enduro Bike Shootout, the Specialized Enduro is one of our favorites and one that we highly recommend. If you’re a rider who has plenty of pedaling and mellower trails to ride but really lives for the gnarlier trails in your town, the Enduro could be a great option for you. Coming into the riding season this year, I wanted to build a new long travel bike that was a bit of a do it all fun machine. I’ve been tempted by the high pivot enduro bikes that have been coming into play lately – particularly after testing the new GT Force. I love the way that they carry speed over rough sections and appreciate how composed they are when you’re absolutely pinned. The new Specialized Enduro is a big bike in many ways. Yes, it has a lot of travel, big wheels and stacked numbers. But it is also big in a metaphysical sense, as it proves beyond a doubt that a bike can exist in two different realms at once. This is because it’s also light, snappy, poppy and playful, all in despite of what the numbers might say. As an evolutionary tangent of Specialized’s downhill beast, the Demo, it’s not a surprise that this bike is one of the hardest charging and most capable two-wheeled contraptions we’ve tested. 170mm of travel, a 1274mm wheel base and a head tube angle of 63.9 degrees will do that. Yet what really stands out about the Enduro is how comfortable it is in every situation—climbing included.

The Enduro Comp will chew up and spit out the nasty terrain with ease, and let you take some seriously wild line choices in the process. The spec isn’t the best for the money though
Progressive, well-proportioned geometry that encourages you to ride really fast
Super-smooth, bump eating rear suspension that’ll swallow just about everything in its path
NX Eagle 12-speed gearing works okay but I’d expect something a little flashier at this price
Own brand tyres aren’t tough enough and struggle in some conditions
