The Specialized Enduro enters this group test as the defending champion. Spoiler alert: it couldn’t quite clinch the win but it's still an awesome bike for a lot of riders. We found out who this bike is for!
Completely composed on the roughest trails
Brilliant rear suspension offering lots of traction
Smart features such as the SWAT box
Too much bike for many trails
Riding position too stretched uphill

Sharing several strands of DNA with Demo 29 downhill bike, the latest Specialized Enduro Elite is a major departure from the X-frame design of old.
Blurs boundaries between enduro and downhill
Lower-tier components

Featuring poster-worthy bikes - and sometimes cars - Dream Rides is our ode to the vehicles we lust after. In this case a Porsche 911 GTS with bike racks and a ready-to-race Specialized Enduro Expert.

The new Specialized Enduro is a big bike in many ways. Yes, it has a lot of travel, big wheels and stacked numbers. But it is also big in a metaphysical sense, as it proves beyond a doubt that a bike can exist in two different realms at once. This is because it’s also light, snappy, poppy and playful, all in despite of what the numbers might say. As an evolutionary tangent of Specialized’s downhill beast, the Demo, it’s not a surprise that this bike is one of the hardest charging and most capable two-wheeled contraptions we’ve tested. 170mm of travel, a 1274mm wheel base and a head tube angle of 63.9 degrees will do that. Yet what really stands out about the Enduro is how comfortable it is in every situation—climbing included.

The Specialized Enduro is not for everyone, but for the people that it is for, prepare to be amazed. This is a purpose-built bike that will take you down trails you'd be second guessing on other rigs. The downside is, it'll make you hurt on the climbs.

The Enduro Comp will chew up and spit out the nasty terrain with ease, and let you take some seriously wild line choices in the process. The spec isn’t the best for the money though
Progressive, well-proportioned geometry that encourages you to ride really fast
Super-smooth, bump eating rear suspension that’ll swallow just about everything in its path
NX Eagle 12-speed gearing works okay but I’d expect something a little flashier at this price
Own brand tyres aren’t tough enough and struggle in some conditions

For its biggest, baddest Enduro ever, Specialized scrapped the hugely successful, yet rather long-in-the-tooth X-Wing frame and began anew. Inspired by
Frame | The new Enduro features a full-carbon frameset, boasting 170mm of suspension travel in an all-new design that increases your control and speed over the roughest sections of trail, yet also boasts exceptional pedaling efficiency. We’ve also given the new Enduro aggressive “long, low and slack” geometry for a more balanced and confident feel at speed. Finally, you’ll find a host smart details, including our SWAT™ Door down tube storage integration, a creak-free threaded BB, and painless internal cable routing. BB Standard: BSA, 73mm, Threaded |
