Specialized Turbo Vado SL e-bike sheds serious weight with SL 1.1 Motor

May 2020

Recently, Specialized e-bikes have been on a diet. First it was the Turbo Creo SL which introduced us to their SL 1.1 motor. Roughly half the weight of other crank based motors at 1.95kg, the design along with new battery options allowed for Specialized to build a road e-bike as light as 26.2 lbs. Then […]

Observations
  • A high-speed, feature-complete, urban electric bike with unique tubular fenders that have flexible extensions and water routing system to keep your legs, back and face dry, integrated lights and a tight modern rack

  • Available in 6 sizes including high-step and mid-step frame styles with gender-specific saddle and grips, custom tuned 50 mm suspension fork with plenty of adjustment, sturdy thru-axles for improved power transfer and handling at high speed

  • Specialized TCD display, Mission Control smartphone app syncs with display for GPS readouts and battery optimization, powerful 180mm hydraulic disc brakes in the front and 160mm in the rear

Specialized Turbo Vado 2.0 review

Feb 2019 · Warren Rossiter

0 rolls beautifully on its wide rims and 47mm tyres, has a suspension fork that’s suitable for gentle off-road forays, and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with enough power to halt a 22kg bike (+rider) safely, but I think Specialized needs to address the limits of its range.. .

Highs
  • Lovely ride quality and surprisingly fun handling bike

Lows
  • The battery range isn’t as great as I’d hoped

Specialized Turbo Vado 4.0

Feb 2018

The Specialized Women’s Turbo Vado 4.0 is a cool, chic, city commuter that will get you smoothly to your destination. The Brose motor makes light work of the streets, which coupled with a great build quality and comfortable riding position make this bike a winner. We tested the women’s version Turbo Vado 4.0 but it’s also available as a men’s bike with higher standover in the same spec for the same money. The Turbo Vado 4.0 provides the ability to soak up small bumps with the 50mm travel on the Suntour NCX forks, whilst 700cc wheels and 47mm tyres do the rest to smooth out the cobbles.
