Summary
The Specialized Fuse is a versatile and capable trail hardtail that excels in a variety of terrains, offering a fun and stable ride with modern geometry and meaty tires. It's praised for its solid all-around performance, efficient climbing, and excellent traction, though some note its weight and the performance of lower-end components as drawbacks. The Fuse stands out for its value and adaptability, making it a favorite among budget-conscious riders seeking a do-it-all hardtail.
Versatile and highly capable on a wide range of terrain
Modern geometry provides stability and confidence
Excellent traction and efficient climber
Great value for the price
Tubeless compatible wheels and comfortable cockpit
Big tires can feel sluggish on paved roads
Lower end fork performance
Brakes could be more powerful
Seat post is too short for taller riders
No chain stay protection
This is far and away the best budget hardtail we've tested, it does everything well.
Specialized seems to have thrown every manipulation process in the book at this one; butting, forging, a two-piece welded BB shell, hydroforming, swathing, double-pass smooth welds, you name it, the Fuse has it.
The new Fuse emerged fully formed and ready to shred.

Credit to the slack geometry, ample maneuverability, and a fork with plenty of travel.

Far from entry-level performance

The Specialized Fuse 27.5 rode away from the competition in our budget mountain bike test. This is hands down the best budget hardtail we've tested...
Solid all-around performance
Meaty tires
Modern geometry
Fun on a wide range of terrain
Big tires can feel a little slow rolling
Seat post is too short
No chain stay protection

Billed as an out and out trail bike, the Specialized Fuse Comp sees Specialized back at the sharp end of hardtails. What’s new? Everything really!
Whisper silent ride that’s impressively smooth for a hardtail.
BB height could be 10mm lower.

The newly modernized Fuse hardtail just got a more aggressive spec, geometry and price point ... but not too aggressive.

Specialized's Fuse Comp 29 is a 130mm trail hardtail that blends balanced handling with some very neat features. It's got a very respectable spec list for a shop bought bike, but dedicated distance sluggers will find it too heavy and those after techy thrills will find the geometry a bit tame. The best mountain bikes you can buy for under £1,500 - full sus and hardtails Is it worth converting your mountain bike to tubeless?

The 2020 Specialized Fuse Comp is a new-school hardtail ripper with a 130mm travel fork, 2.6in tyres, and modern trail-oriented geometry.

A monster-tyred trail machine that's ideal for high-mileage off-road missions
