Summary
The Specialized Diverge is a versatile gravel bike that excels in both on and off-road conditions, praised for its Future Shock suspension system enhancing ride smoothness and comfort. Its design accommodates wider tires and features a sophisticated construction, making it a fun and capable ride across varied terrains. However, its positioning within Specialized's lineup and some component choices have drawn mixed reactions.
Future Shock suspension system enhances smoothness
Versatile for both on and off-road riding
Accommodates wider tires for improved off-road capability
Sophisticated construction and design
Fun and capable across varied terrains
Lacks a specific purpose compared to other Specialized bikes
Weight savings may be offset by adding FutureShock
Some component choices have drawn criticism
Positioning within Specialized's lineup has drawn mixed reactions
Somewhat lost among Specialized’s more splashy drop-bar bikes is the Diverge.Bicycling
Without a doubt, probably the most bonkers bike you’ll ever ride and instantly fall in love with.
A redesigned frame with space for 42mm tyres, disc brakes, 1x11 Shimano Di2 gearing, Future Shock suspension and a dropper seatpost signal a lot of changes for Specialized's Diverge, but they add up to create one of the best adventure bikes I've ridden.

The Specialized Women’s Diverge E5 Comp is a bike that will turn its hand to most types of riding and one that genuinely hits the do-it-all landmark - it's pretty much identical to the men’s bike too. As a jack of all trades, we liked this versatile gravel and adventure bike but it needs tougher tyres before you take it too far off the beaten track.

A real step forward in the gravel sector yet at its heart still very much like a road bike. Not cheap, though
Incredible versatility
Sophisticated and intelligent construction and all around fun to ride
Considerable price tag
Dropper post seems superfluous

With such high-profile advocacy for the top model, what’s the verdict on the €2,999 Specialized Diverge Comp 2018 for ra rider who's not Peter Sagan?

A phenomenally capable, tech-laden adventure bike – but it's mightily expensive
