Summary
The Specialized Fuse is a versatile and fun trail hardtail that combines fat bike-like traction with trail bike handling, making it a unique and playful ride. Its modern geometry and plus-size tires offer a comfortable and confident ride, though some reviews note the tires can be sluggish on climbs. The bike is praised for its snappy, lively frame and well-thought-out features like internal cable routing and SWAT storage, but some components like the dropper post and fork receive mixed feedback.
Combines trail bike nimbleness with near fat bike traction
Stiff and light frame providing a snappy, lively ride
Modern trail geometry and playful handling
Well spec'd and budget friendly
SWAT frame storage and tools are well designed and useful
6Fattie tires are a little sluggish compared with normal 2.3-inch-wide rubber
Press-fit bottom-bracket shell
TransX dropper requires a crazy amount of weight to drop it all the way down
Component spec underwhelming for the price
High volume 27.5+ tires tend to bob a bit under hard pedalling
The Fuse climbs incredibly well.
I didn’t expect to be this smitten over a hardtail, but I’ve been all grins for the last two months on the 27.5+ Fuse.
The Specialized Fuse Expert 6Fattie is a monster-tyred trail machine that soaks up the bumps and is ideal for high-mileage off-road missions.
Hardtails aren’t dead. Not by a long shot.

2kg complete bike weight is comparable with the other similarly priced alloy plus bikes we’ve tested though and the component spec is a little underwhelming for the price. . .

Specialized has peppered it’s lineup with “Plus” bikes, and its Fuse lineup is helping bring new life to the hardtail by combining trail bike nimbleness with near fat bike traction. Using modern trail bike geometry and a dropper post, the Fuse rides a lot like a small-travel full suspension rig. I didn’t expect to be this …

Hardtails aren’t dead. Not by a long shot. Specialized’s new Fuse Expert Carbon 6Fattie proves that thanks to its fun geometry, excellent parts spec, and agreeable price point. - Mtbr.com

3″ tyres on mountain bikes. Yes, ‘semi fat’ is now officially a thing. Get used to it, we’ll be seeing ‘semi fat’ bikes popping up a lot as we roll toward 2016. The new standard will surely provoke heated discussions and much throwing of hands in the air. But for now we’ll cast all opinions …
Boat loads of fun.
All the excitement of riding a hardtail.
Traction!
Corners and climbs anything in its path.
Sluggish on buff trails.
Clunky Manitou fork.
Pricey for the spec.
