Summary
The Specialized Stumpjumper excels as a versatile cross-country bike, praised for its playful and fun handling that inspires confidence on various trails. Its supple suspension and balanced geometry provide a smooth ride, while innovative features like the SWAT storage system add practicality. However, some reviews note issues with tire performance in mud and a tendency for the rear shock to rush through travel on big hits.
Playful and fun handling
Supple suspension performance
SWAT storage system
Excellent traction on climbs
Balanced and predictable geometry
Tires can be bouncy and perform poorly in mud
Rear shock may rush through travel on big hits
Low bottom bracket leads to pedal strikes
Slightly sluggish compared to bikes with regular tires
It’s a bike that works in harmony with all its angles and travel, never seeming like it’s too much or not enough of anything.
the 6fattie is the most fun I have ever had on a mountain bike
Supple suspension, tacky tyres and a sweet balance of slack and sharp – the Stumpy rules the trails.
The Stumpjumper has a really lively, playful feel on descents, and rides with great agility even with those chubby tires.
The 6Fattie is a real hoot

The Specialized Stumpjumper Carbon 6fattie is short by modern standards and with other options now available, upsizing may no longer be an easy get out.
Not lacking in fun
Definitely lacking in length

The main question to ask ourselves is … why? Why do we ride? Why do you ride? Why spend so much of your hard-earned money on bikes and gear? Why not just hop on your old steel klunker and head out for hours and hours of ripping up our favorite techy singletrack?

There are just a handful of bikes with a history that can compete with the Specialized Stumpjumper: over the past few years it’s undergone revision after revision, wheel sizes have come and gone, and the Stumpjumper has had them all. Right now it’s on the market in 27.5″, 29″ and 27.5+. We’ve put the burlier […]

[ad3] Last month we spent a few days with Specialized in Northern California for the launch of the new Camber. During that same week, we also had the opportunity to spend some time aboard the new Stumpjumper 29″. The classic trail slayer got some ground breaking new updates. Specialized did away with EVO models and just has two Stumpy offerings : 150mm/27.5″ & 135mm/29″. The new Stumpjumper was also the first bike to see the SWAT door, a downtube storage compartment that is accessed by way of a trap door under the bottle cage. Inside the downtube you can put

Last year at this time, the concept of a 27.5+ wheel size was littler more than a rumor – another feather in an already very full cap. In a very short period of time middle fat sizes have gone from ideas to full blown bikes. While the bigger companies have typically been more reserved when it comes …
