Summary

The Specialized Demo is a highly praised downhill bike, known for its fun, predictable handling and innovative design. Its FSR suspension and low center of gravity contribute to confident performance in rough terrain. While it excels in maneuverability and comfort, some riders may find the low bottom bracket height and specific shock adjustments less ideal.

Pros
  • Predictable FSR rear end

  • Low center of gravity for confident handling

  • Innovative shock-absorbing foam in down tube protector

  • Short rear end for quick turning

  • Light and stiff frame

Cons
  • Exceptionally low BB height may not suit all riders

  • Fork and shock springs may require adjustments

  • Press-fit bottom bracket

Tested: Specialized Demo 8 II

Oct 2012

At its inception in 2004, the Specialized Demo was a 9.5-inch travel, huckster-oriented freeride bike. Today, the name is all that remains. The Demo has steadily evolved from the once overbuilt, ultra burly 48-pound rig into a maneuverable 8-inch travel downhill race bike.

Specialized Demo 8 FSR II – First ride review

Jan 2011 · Mike Davis

The 2011 frame retains the Demo’s trademark double rear triangle – it’s a conventional four-bar back end, but the shock is driven directly off the chainstay, so Specialized can mount the 3in stroke Fox DHX shock low in the frame, which allows the whole frame to be built lower.
