Summary
The Specialized Demo is a standout downhill race bike, praised for its race-ready performance, intuitive handling, and smooth suspension. Its design, influenced by pro riders, offers a low center of gravity and excellent cornering capabilities. While it excels in speed and agility, some riders note limitations in pedaling efficiency and wheel durability.
Real racer’s bike with input from pro riders
Low bottom bracket and center of gravity for better cornering
Smooth and adjustable suspension performance
Race-ready straight off the shop floor
Light weight for a DH bike, enhancing maneuverability
Not ideal for pedaling through gnarly terrain
Wheelset rims bend easily
Lacked a bit of stability on high speed wide-open sections
The influence of Hill and Fairclough is clear – this is a real racer’s bike
Somehow I can’t help but feel there’s a not so well–hidden message to Sam Hill in Specialized’s new ‘Get Sick Soon’ carbon Demo 8 advert.
With its clean yet catchy aesthetics, versatile geometry and great build package the Specialized Demo 8 II offers up a good value for gravity riders looking for a race bike that can still be playful and versatile when not on the clock.

At its inception in 2004, the Specialized Demo was a 9.5-inch travel, huckster-oriented freeride bike. Today, the name is all that remains. The Demo has steadily evolved from the once overbuilt, ultra burly 48-pound rig into a maneuverable 8-inch travel downhill race bike.

The 2011 frame retains the Demo’s trademark double rear triangle – it’s a conventional four-bar back end, but the shock is driven directly off the chainstay, so Specialized can mount the 3in stroke Fox DHX shock low in the frame, which allows the whole frame to be built lower.
