Summary
The Scott Lumen is a lightweight trail e-bike that excels with its natural ride feel and impressive integration. Its TQ HPR50 motor delivers quiet, seamless power, making climbing efficient and fun, while the 130mm suspension offers a poppy and adaptable performance on flowing trails. However, some component choices, like tires and brakes, can limit its descending capability on rougher terrain.
Lightweight design
Natural and quiet TQ motor performance
Impressive integration and stealthy looks
Responsive and agile handling
Efficient climber
Component spec limits trail potential
Non-removable battery
High price point
Tires lack traction and durability
Busy cockpit with multiple controls
It feels so much like a regular bike and I dare say that many would have a hard time, if not impossible, to tell that it’s an e-bike when riding it without the assistance.
The SCOTT Lumen eRIDE 900 SL is the Swiss army knife amongst bikes.
As it turns out, the Lumen isn’t your average e-MTB. Indeed this is a seriously rapid trail bike that is defined by its sporty handling and terrific agility.
Scott’s new Lumen is a game changer; an e-bike light enough to pass for a regular trail bike, with a motor so subtle it can power you up the climbs and get out of the way for the descents.
The Lumen is a real dark horse and one of the best e-MTBs on the market.

The Scott Lumen eRIDE 920 is a light and snappy ride. This XC/trail setup handles with confidence, yet passersby might not even clock it as a full-suspension or electric bike. Lightweight, nimble, and agile: these are not words we usually associate with e-bikes, where a motor and battery often add bulk. You might think that
Terrific frame build. Great trail-ready geometry with a clean look thanks to the integrated shock and cable routing. The compact motor keeps it stealthy so you can barely tell it’s electric.
Precise and quiet power. The TQ HPR50 delivers intentionally modest power that enhances, rather than overtakes, your pedaling. It’s smooth, natural, and impressively quiet.
Light build. At roughly 41 lbs, it’s one of the lighter eMTBs out there, keeping handling natural and lively. Great for flowy trails and moderate terrain, while still capable on technical sections and climbs.
Thoughtful suspension. The 130/140mm setup performs well within XC and trail limits, and Scott’s TwinLoc system lets you fine-tune suspension for traction, efficiency, or full plushness on the fly.
Range extender compatibility. Add the 160Wh extender for roughly 44% more range.
Strong braking setup. The Shimano MT520 four-piston brakes deliver confident, controlled stopping power; an upgrade over the two-piston systems often found on XC builds.
Heavy wheels and slow hub engagement. The stock wheels add weight and dull responsiveness; upgrading could make the bike feel even more agile.
Maintenance tradeoffs. The integrated shock and internal cable routing look great but make service and part swaps more involved.

I get the impression that Scott has labelled the Lumen eRide 900 as a cross-country/light trail bike to aid its pursuit of creating one of the lightest e-MTBs around and it’s worked. However, thanks to some solid geometry choices and responsive trail manners, the Lumen is a real dark horse and one of the best e-MTBs on the market. However, some componentry choices hold the bike back.
