Reviews

Summary

The Nukeproof Mega series is celebrated for its modern geometry, balanced handling, and solid suspension performance, making it a strong contender in the enduro category. While it excels in descending and offers a unique ride experience, some reviews note limitations in high-speed stability and climbing efficiency. The bike's value and component spec are frequently praised, though some riders may find the alloy frame's flex and the suspension's behavior under power less than ideal.

Pros
  • Modern geometry and balanced handling

  • Solid suspension performance

  • Good value and component spec

  • Unique ride experience

  • Excels in descending

Cons
  • Limited high-speed stability

  • Alloy frame flex

  • Suspension behavior under power

  • Climbing efficiency

  • Component limitations for some riders

Key Quotes
The Nukeproof Mega 290 Pro doesn’t swallow high-speed hits as well as bigger big-wheeled bikes, but it encourages you to get off the ground and avoid them altogether.
BIKE Magazine logoBIKE Magazine
The Mega 290 is extremely fast and super fun at the same time – it’s a mystery to us why Sam doesn’t ride it in the EWS.
Enduro Mountainbike Magazine logoEnduro Mountainbike Magazine
The Mega is ready to rally right out of the box, with a well-sorted parts spec and up-to-date geometry.

Tested: Nukeproof Mega 290 Pro

Sep 2018

This is a weird bike, and not because its name once belonged to a Midwest mid-nineties carbon and titanium component manufacturer. It’s weird because it combines forgiving geometry with unforgiving suspension… and it actually kinda works.

This meant, at 6ft 3in, I found the stock ride position too low and stretched out, making it hard to get my weight back on steep descents.

Nukeproof Mega 290 Factory Review

Jul 2018 · Christoph Bayer

The Nukeproof Mega comes with either 27.5″ or 29″ wheels. So far, Sam Hill has been relying exclusively on the smaller wheels. After reviewing the Mega 290 Factory, we have to ask ourselves: why? Nukeproof Mega 275C RS - Review

May 2018 · Mike Kazimer

Nukeproof added a carbon front triangle with minor geometry updates to the latest Mega chassis, does that translate into an EWS-capable ride for the average pilot?

Highs
  • Fast and stable, but also able to handle slower speeds.

  • Excellent suspension performance.

  • DoubleDown tires as standard equipment.

Lows
  • You still won't be able to ride like Sam Hill.

  • No water bottle mounts inside front triangle.

  • Lighter riders may need different rebound tune

Nukeproof Mega 275 Factory (2018) first ride - MBR

Dec 2017 · Alan Muldoon

There’s a tightness to the Nukeproof Mega 275 Factory that makes it easy to pick a line and stick to it. Confident hitting tracks flat out from the get go.

Highs
  • Great geometry and handling, Comprehensive size range. Race-ready specification with Double Down casing Maxxis tyres. Fox Factory suspension brings next level performance at a seriously competitive price point.

Lows
  • Fox Float X2 shock requires patience when setting it up to bet the maximum performance gains. Slimline padding on the Nukeproof saddle leaves nowhere to hide on longer rides. Shimano's gear range isn't as comprehensive as the SRAM RS build.
