Flow Mountain Bike
Tested: Norco Torrent 7.1

Jun 2016

We aren’t joking, this hardtail is a serious trail bike. Why? Huge amounts of grip, slack and incredibly comfortable geometry and a spot-on stock build. This is a bike every mountain biker will enjoy and appreciate. Originally a staple in the Hardtail Category of your local DH races, the early versions of the Norco Torrent were …

Highs
  • Climb anything, descend anything.

  • Grips under pressure like a hardtail shouldn't be able to.

  • The perfect modern hardtail do-it-all geometry.

  • Componentry build on point.

Lows
  • 3.0" tyres are not at home on smooth terrain or high speed berms at low pressures.

  • Tyres desensitise you to the trail.

  • Grips are flimsy and twist easily.

Norco Torrent 7.1 review

Feb 2016 · Guy Kesteven

Lazy feel won’t suit everyone, but an outrageously capable, chaos proof package at a cracking price. Buy if you want an infectious, outrageous juggernaut of a bike, and don't mind grunting your way up hills to reap its rewards

Highs
  • Big bar, fat rubber, forgiving frame and stable handling allow daredevil descending

  • Outrageous grip at low pressures

  • Impressive parts package for the price

Lows
  • Feels far more draggy, soft and slow than it actually is

  • Lazy steering/tyre scrub at low speeds
