Summary
The Giant Anthem is a highly capable cross-country bike that combines modern geometry with efficient suspension performance, making it a strong contender in the XC category. Its updated design and Live Valve technology enhance both climbing and descending capabilities, though some reviewers note limitations in water carrying capacity and cable management. The bike is praised for its lightweight frame, confident handling, and the seamless integration of electronic suspension adjustments.
Lightweight and robust frame
Efficient yet confident ride
Modern geometry balances agility and stability
Fox suspension with Live Valve tech for automatic adjustment
Excellent XC geometry
Single mount for a bottle cage limiting on longer rides
Live Valve cable tends to pop out, disconnecting the suspension lockout
Stock Maxxis dry tyres struggle in wet conditions
Harsh cockpit
Limited water carrying capabilities
Giant has clearly worked hard to bring the Anthem up to date with the current crop of multi-faceted cross-country bikes.
The Anthem is a high-performing XC race bike.
Not only has Giant produced a simpler and lighter chassis compared to its predecessor, it’s also brought the geometry right up to date.

We put a lot bigger shock in there than what a lot of other bikes on the market have. So we have a 50 millimeter stroke shock in this particular platform. A lot of other bikes are using a smaller 45 mm stroke that has a shorter eye to eye, smaller can, smaller eyelet, all of those things.

The Anthem Advanced Pro 29 1 is Giant's flagship XC thoroughbred and, for its top-shelf price, it is tricked out with a matching component list. Along with a blingy kit, its efficient yet confident ride puts it squarely in line as a top contender for the best cross-country mountain bike crown.
