Summary
The Canyon Grizl is a versatile and comfortable gravel bike designed for adventure and bikepacking, with a smooth ride quality enhanced by features like the VCLS seatpost and ample tire clearance. It offers excellent handling on mixed terrain, though some may find the geometry or gearing less ideal for certain uses. Overall, it provides great value and is praised for its mounting options and robust build.
Smooth and comfortable ride quality
Ample mounting points for bikepacking
Versatile handling on various terrains
Good value for money
Wide tire clearance up to 50mm
Geometry may not suit all riders
Gearing optimized for speed over loaded climbs
Can be heavier than some alternatives
Limited suspension options or effectiveness in some builds
Some cable and accessory integration issues
The Grizl is hands down one the smoothest riding drop bar bikes I’ve ridden.BIKEPACKING.com
It’s got just about all the best bits of the carbon Grail with none of the weirdness or constraints imposed by the funky cockpit.
It’s a rugged workhorse of a bike that somehow never seems to teeter too far in any one direction.
The bike deservedly wins this test and is a glimpse into the future: gravel all-rounders will increasingly have active suspension – the performance says it all!

Yes, this limited edition Canyon Grizl Throwback gravel bike isn't ashamed to admit that it's just a lightweight rigid 90s mountain bike!

Friendly geometry for technical terrain
Excellent power transfer
Good for mixed surface paths and gravel trails
Flexible platform with various build kits
Heavy, complex, and expensive suspension fork (Rudy)
Canyon speced a 1.25" steerer (disliked by reviewer)

Canyon water bottles and cages not recommended
