Realistically, it's better to look at the Lux Trail as modern cross-country bike rather than trying to pull it into the downcountry pool.

Bike Perfect
Canyon Lux Trail CF8 review

Jan 2022 · Guy Kesteven

Is Canyon’s half new and half old Lux Trail CF8 the full package when it comes to downcountry mountain biking?

Highs
  • Excellent AXS wireless component spec for the money

  • Benchmark DT Swiss carbon wheel and Maxxis tire team

  • Combined suspension lockout

  • Stretched straight-line stability

  • Double big bottle space

  • Super neat chain keeper

  • Tidy steering lock stopper

  • Tool free wheel removal

Lows
  • Under leveraged shock is too stiff

  • Overly linear suspension feel once moving

  • Tangible power loss when pedaling

  • Excessive seat tube height restricts size options

  • Long reach needs a shorter stem/steeper seat angle

  • Harsh bar feel

  • Direct buy only

Field Test: 2022 Canyon Lux Trail - A Revised Racer

Dec 2021 · Henry Quinney

Is a new front triangle enough to move a more traditional XC bike into the downcountry category?

Highs
  • Excellent value

  • 'Traditional' pedaling position will appeal to those who don't like steep seat angles

  • Chain guide and bar rotation limiter are well executed

Lows
  • Not particularly confidence inspiring on the descents

  • Long reach with slack seat tube can make sizing difficult

  • Heavy considering the spec

2022 Canyon Lux, Trail Bike?

Nov 2021

The Canyon Lux Trail CF 8 suspension is firm, fast, and freakin' fun but the geometry is too rooted in its XC-Race roots to be fairly marketed as a proper trail bike.

Highs
  • Excellent rear suspension performance, exactly what reviewer looks for in a short travel bike

  • Great climbing traction, dreamy climber

  • Beautiful frame design with clean integration of shock and water bottles

  • Excellent AXS drivetrain and dropper post

  • Lightweight sub-2000g frameset

  • Efficient and capable suspension platform for technical XC courses

Lows
  • Oversized seat mast limits dropper post insertion, causing issues on steep/technical terrain

  • Stock Level brakes are inadequate for trail riding (lowlight)

  • Head tube angle (67.5°) too steep for stable descending

  • Stock grips, saddle, chainring, and bar not suited for trail use

  • Short dropper post (120mm) insufficient for larger frames

  • Suspension tuning finicky with narrow sag window

  • AXS remote lockout cables clutter cockpit

  • Hidden tool-free axle less preferred

The New Canyon Lux Trail is Not Simply a Lux with a Longer Fork

Aug 2021 · Travis Engel

Most brands just add travel to their XC bikes to make a trail version, but the Canyon Lux Trail has an entirely new front triangle.

Canyon Lux CF SLX 9 LTD review

Jan 2021 · Tom Marvin

Quickly up to speed and with no kit compromises, I loved the Lux on all but the steepest descents

Highs
  • Snappy acceleration and impressive climbing performance

  • Kit list is unrivalled in this test

Lows
  • More traditional geometry means tackling the latest XC courses will require sharp handling skills

  • Non-adjustable bar wasn’t as comfy as the rest on test, although it looks great!

Review | The 2020 Canyon Lux CF SL 8.0 Is A Near-Perfect XC Race Bike

Dec 2019

Adorned with 29in wheels and 100mm of rear wheel travel, the Lux is Canyon's super light, full suspension XC speedster. Brand new for 2019, the latest generation Lux has been completely re-engineered with a new carbon fibre chassis that shares very little in common with the old model. Read on for the full review.

Highs
  • The lightweight, practical and spacious frame design

  • Fantastic power transfer

  • Razor-sharp handling

  • Love the trick Quixle rear axle!

Lows
  • Dual lockout creates a very stiff, awkward lever throw

  • The SID fork isn't the most supple performer

  • The unloveable Selle Italia saddle

Canyon Lux CF SL 8.0 Pro Race review

Jul 2019

Canyon's Lux CF SL 8.0 Race is a super high value and blisteringly quick cross-country race bike that can also take some rapid trail riding in its stride. The suspension and geometry work well for the intended task but the Gripshifter is a very odd component choice that undermines control and needs changing.
