Summary

The Canyon Strive is a versatile enduro bike praised for its innovative Shapeshifter system, which dynamically adjusts geometry and suspension for efficient climbing and capable descending. It offers a light, nimble feel with well-tuned suspension that provides good mid-stroke support and uses travel effectively. While some find its geometry conservative and the Shapeshifter remote takes getting used to, it delivers excellent value and performance across varied terrain.

Pros
  • Shapeshifter system adjusts geometry and suspension for climbing and descending efficiency

  • Light and nimble feel despite long travel

  • Excellent value for high-end carbon enduro bike

  • Well-tuned suspension with good mid-stroke support

  • Versatile performance across different trail types

Cons
  • Conservative geometry could be slacker for steep descents

  • Shapeshifter remote requires getting used to and can cause cockpit clutter

  • Seat tube angle is behind modern standards

  • Suspension damping may be over-damped for lighter riders

  • EXO casing tires lack durability on rocky terrain

Key Quotes
It rides like a shorter travel bike. Its overall demeanor is more like a trail bike than what I expect from an enduro (race) bike right now.
Bicycling
The Shapeshifter concept is the ultimate form that a multiple-mode rear suspension can take.

But get it on an steep, raggedy descent and I know I’ll be pining for the extra security that comes from a slightly slacker head angle.

This is a bloody quick bike, both up, down and along.

Canyon Strive CFR 9.0 Team 2019 review

Jan 2019

Canyon's totally reworked Strive CFR 9.0 Team is an extremely rapid and long-legged trail and enduro bike that impresses with a much-improved travel and geometry adjusting Shapeshifter system paired to big wheels. It's not the most radical shaped enduro rig out there, but it's blisteringly quick, versatile and excellent value nonetheless.
