Summary
The Canyon Spectral is a highly capable trail bike praised for its excellent value and fun, playful handling. It features plush suspension with great small-bump sensitivity and mid-stroke support, making it adept at descending and navigating technical terrain. However, some reviews note geometry and fit issues for taller riders, and it may not be the most stable at high speeds.
Excellent value and competitive pricing
Playful and agile handling for technical trails
Plush suspension with good small-bump sensitivity
High-quality components for the price
Comfortable and efficient on climbs
Geometry and fit issues for taller riders
Less stable at high speeds and on demanding trails
Not the most efficient climber due to suspension and weight
Some components like brakes and tires may underperform for certain riders
The Spectral might just be my favorite 'trail' bike I’ve ridden in a long time.
An agile and comfortable – rather than flat-out fast – trail bike, the Spectral is hard to fault for the cash.
It’s a playful, mischievous bike that loves being thrashed about, preferably downhill, at speed, on rough and chundery trails.
Once you turn its nose downhill, the Spectral WMN shines with a very playful character and becomes a true fun machine.
Pound for pound, there is no better 27.5in trail bike

This 150mm-travel 29er with a 160mm fork offers generous travel, balanced handling, and is surprisingly lively

The Spectral is back on big wheels for 2021, with 150mm of rear travel and a full carbon frame.
Very well spec'd for the price
Snappy pedaling performance
Reasonable weight makes it suitable for bigger days of riding
There's only room for a smaller water bottle.
Longer seat tube may prevent running longer dropper posts
Not the bike to pick if you have a smash-through-everything riding style

The Canyon Spectral CFR has gone through quite the makeover in recent years. From good-natured, almost boring trail bike with 2.6” tires to an overwhelmingly fun bike that constantly begs to be ridden harder. How did it do it? Capable rear suspension
Quiet
Seat and head tube are too long
Climbing is only a means to an end

Our Trail Bike of the Year 2018, the Canyon Spectral AL is the 27.5in bike which all others are measured. It’s undergone revisions to make it more capable.

The updated, longer-legged Canyon Spectral has conservative numbers on paper that make for innovative riding on the trail.

Sitting in between the Neuron and the Strive, the Spectral is Canyon's aggressive long-travel party bike. For 2019, Canyon has jacked up the Spectral with a 160mm travel fork and a bigger shock to increase rear travel to 150mm. Has it improved the Spectral? Yes and no. Here's our longterm review of the Spectral AL 6.0
Hooligan-friendly handling and suspension
A Fox 36 and a DPX2 shock for under $4K? Yes please!
Tough & wide DT Swiss rims paired to aggro Maxxis rubber
The seat tube could be shorter and steeper
Canyon's own dropper post is ok, but lacks refinement

5 degrees slacker), the Spectral isn’t the most confidence-inspiring bike on fast, technical trails, partly because the soft suspension makes the short chassis less stable.. .
