Summary
The BMC URS gravel bike family is praised for its confidence-inspiring handling and stability, especially on rough terrain, with its geometry and suspension systems enhancing comfort and control. However, some models may feel too similar, and the range's complexity could be overwhelming for casual riders. The bike's versatility and fun factor are highlighted, though some note limitations like the inability to combine certain suspension components.
Confidence-inspiring handling geometry
Versatile on any gravel surface
Excellent tyres offering comfort, grip, and control
Stable ride quality
Integrated damping elements enhance comfort
MTT stem and fork not mutually compatible
Range may be unnecessarily complicated
Suspension systems may sap some pedalling efficiency
Cannot accommodate a dropper post
Handlebar gives way somewhat when out of the saddle
The URS platform is incredibly capable when the terrain gets tough.
The BMC URS 01 ONE is probably one of the most fun, extraordinary bikes in the test field.
The geometry, which has a noticeably slack head tube and long front centre, results in a very stable ride quality.
It’s a bike that makes you smile, placing the focus on fun, gravel adventures, and the joy of being outside.

BMC markets the URS using the word ‘explore’ quite a lot. That’s a very open term that can conjure up
Impressive off-road handling
In-frame storage
47mm tyre clearance
Plenty of compliance
Not so good on tarmac
Suspension stem takes getting used to

Impressively capable, but is the URS range too nuanced for its own good?

Mtt tech boosts comfort
Standard urs model offers the core ride experience
Mtt stem and fork not mutually compatible
Urs 01 and 01 lt versions feel very similar

The BMC URS 01 ONE gravel monster should be tailor made for our big adventure gravel bike group test, but can it live up to its striking paint job?
Incredibly fun and efficient bike
Sleek and unique BMC look
Cockpit bobs up and down during sprints

20 mm of integrated front suspension meets an already progressive gravel bike.
Balanced ride with front control/comfort now matching the rear end, progressive geometry pushes into MTB territory, easy-to-use lockout, integrated aesthetics, frame comes with included impact protection.
Suspension top-out, setup limitations and limited target rider weight range, servicing required, unknowns over long-term servicing prices and logistics, so-so tyre clearance, suspension changes geometry for the worse when under-biking, equipped wheels, bike weight.

If you want a gravel bike that can handle all-day rides on rough terrain (or sneak a lap on the XC trails), the BMC URS LT is worth a look.

BMC offers the fully suspended micro-suspension experience with its new URS LT ‘Gravel Plus’ bike
MTT suspension does an incredible job at absorbing high-frequency vibrations
Huge gear range and smooth wireless shifting from SRAM’s XPLR/X01 mullet groupset
Downtube and fork dropout protection
Minimal fork design looks sleeker than the MTB style gravel suspension
45mm tyre clearance falls a little short of the gravel tyre clearance status quo
Standard 40mm tyre spec feels small for an adventure orientated bike
Top out clunk from the front suspension is noticeable when unweighting the bike
Suspension tuning comes with additional costs
No fork leg luggage bosses

Mine is the Aluminum Al 2 (2022/23) with 2X GRX 400 groupset. Amazing, great bike on rough roads limited only by the tire width (45mm is good with a
Super frame, great for both rough and smooth roads, excellent components and great value.
