Focus JAM 8.9 review

Feb 2022 · Luke Marshall

Focus has found an excellent balance that translates to on-trail enjoyment, so long as you aren’t in a rush up the hills

Highs
  • Well thought-out spec

  • Neat frame storage

  • Looks smart

  • A lot of fun on the trail

Lows
  • A bit hefty in weight

  • CIS stem adds complication if you want/need to change it

Bike Perfect
Focus Jam 6.9 trail bike review

Sep 2021 · Guy Kesteven

Focus says its Jam is designed to ‘release your inner child’ but the chunky build means big kids get to play rough, too

Highs
  • Seriously strong/stiff frame

  • Very smooth and active FOLD suspension

  • Neutral handling on a very stable frame platform

  • Masses of traction

  • Solid kit with XT highlights

  • Space for bottle and frame bag

Lows
  • Very heavy

  • Linear suspension lacks support

  • Needs very high shock pressures

  • CIS stem adds servicing/swap complications

  • Deore chain and cassette

Focus Jam 6.0 LTD: first ride review - MBR

Jun 2021 · Jamie Darlow

Trick wireless shifting, superb fork and shock and a complete frame reboot makes the Focus Jam 6.0 an intriguing new trail bike.

Highs
  • For the most part excellent geometry for a trail bike, delivering a fun and playful ride. Choice of RockShox suspension is inspired, and little details like a chainguide and tool bag are welcome.

Lows
  • CIS integrated stem limits your ability to fine tune the fit and balance. It’s weighty for a £4k bike.

The FOCUS JAM 6.8 NINE not only looks hot but is also a very capable all-rounder. However, it's held back by some of its components. Looking at it, can you guess what the problem is?

Highs
  • Very versatile bike

  • Confidence-inspiring and fun

  • Almost perfect spec

Lows
  • Tires

  • Rear suspension bottoms out

  • Little clearance for wider rear tires
