Summary
The YT Industries Decoy is a highly capable enduro eMTB that excels in aggressive trail riding with its balanced geometry, high-quality suspension, and durable components. It offers a mix of nimble handling and stable descending, though some reviews note its shorter reach can affect climbing comfort and stability at high speeds. The bike's value as a direct-to-consumer product is frequently praised, alongside its performance in steep and technical terrain.
High-quality suspension performance
Durable and high-end components
Excellent value for direct-to-consumer
Nimble handling in tight trails
Stable and confident descending
Shorter reach affects climbing comfort
Older generation Shimano motor
Limited battery size/range
Low bottom bracket leads to pedal strikes
Some models have fragile tires
What the short reach and back end lack in stability and calm confidence, they potentially make up for with a super-agile, rear-sliding mullet character if you’re into tighter trails rather than max-speed racing.
The bike enhances Shimano’s EP8 bionic climbing abilities, without giving up the stable descending traits YT is known for.
The downhiller’s e-bike, with attitude for miles and a well-balanced feel, at a great price

What's the YT Decoy 29 like to live with long-term? We get to the bottom of that—and the bottom of the descents, quickly.

YT might be replacing the Elite with the Core, but the original is still the proven, top-value option from the online MTB specialists
Compact agility and serious stiffness
Premium Fox Factory suspension
Awesome Crankbrothers carbon wheels
Benchmark Maxxis treads
Killer overall kit value
Proven, knock-free Shimano motor
Shortness reduces stability
Cramped when climbing
Older motor
Smaller battery than most
Relatively fragile tires
Long seat tubes remove ‘sizing up’ option

YT Decoy Elite is an enduro-ready e-bike with top-end build kit, adjustable geometry, full-carbon frame, Shimano E8000 motor with custom 540Wh battery.
Standout in every regard: looks, finish, ride quality and value.
If you’re upsizing for increased reach, you’ll need a lower-rise bar, or at the very least flip the stem. Rear end collects mud.

An electric mountain bike with a serious looking parts list and competitive price
Perfectly balanced ride
Feels so close to a downhill bike but is more responsive than you’d imagine
Beautifully finished
Needs a tougher, more aggressive rear tyre
Care is required if jet washing
When’s the new EP8 motor version coming?

This is a surprisingly spritely platform and you might even wonder if you're on smaller wheels...

"EMTBs are for old farts." At the very latest since YT and COMMENCAL have started offering more aggressive, trail-oriented eMTBs in their portfolios did our junior testers start putting their prejudices to one side. In an exciting head to head comparison, they put the COMMENCAL META POWER 29 Essential and YT DECOY Comp through their paces.
