Summary
The Vitus Escarpe is a versatile trail bike that excels in geometry and handling, offering a mix of climbing efficiency and descending confidence. Its suspension performance is noted for early-stroke sensitivity, though some reviews find it less plush compared to competitors. The bike is praised for its value, especially in direct sales, but some components like Fox suspension and brakes receive mixed feedback.
Excellent geometry and smooth handling
Good value for money due to direct-sales model
Versatile bike with stellar spec ready to be pushed hard
Silky smooth, super-sensitive, and ultra-consistent suspension action
Comfortable, balanced climbing position
Fox’s suspension is outshone by competitors’ RockShox dampers
Two-piston rear brake prone to heat build-up
Rear wheel hangs up over the harshest bumps
Stiff dropper remote
Under the bottom bracket cable routing
The Escarpe proved to be a good bike. The geometry is absolutely spot-on, and the sturdy fork and grippy Assegai up front, mounted on a broad rim, encourage you to find steep, technical descents.
The build kit on the Escarpe is simply in a league of its own, or one more in keeping with with higher price tags.
The 2021 Vitus Escarpe is a ripper of a 29er trail bike.
I know I've been using terms like mild-mannered, neutral, and easygoing to describe the Escarpe, but don't mistake those phrases as synonyms for boring. In fact, effortless handling is a big part of what makes the Escarpe so much fun to ride...— Mike KazimerPinkbike

Descending on the Escarpe is a blast because it has geometry that’s aggressive enough and not so long, big or slack that it requires extra input or a different riding technique.

Around 7 or 8 years ago the Vitus Escarpe 29 was a way better 29er trail bike than Big Brand offerings. How is the Escarpe holding up now?
Roomy sizing
Massive upgrade potential
Beautiful climber
Rattly rebound knob
MIsmatched calliper feel
Slacker head angle would be nice

Balanced uphill and downhill performance, with a shape that encourages you to push hard
Excellent geometry and smooth handling
Parts package delivers exceptional value for money
Fox’s suspension is outshone by competitors’ RockShox dampers

With brand new carbon-framed 140mm-travel and revised geometry, can the new 2021 Vitus Escarpe 29 CRX eclipse its illustrious forebears?
Fast, quiet and killer value
Stiff dropper remote

The 2021 Vitus Escarpe is a ripper of a 29er trail bike. It pedals very well and descends like a sprightly enduro bike, plus all versions have a carbon front triangles matched with cool colours for sleek looks. This base model doesn’t have the parts longevity we’d like to see, but it’s a great starting place for a bike upgrade journey.

Vitus' 140mm Escarpe gets completely redesigned for 2021 to provide even more bike for your buck, and we find out what that means on the trail.
Ideal all-rounder, doesn't need crazy trails to deliver a good time
Great price considering the components and performance
Carbon fiber doesn't automatically mean lightweight.
Under the bottom bracket cable routing
