We tested the 2022 Vitus Sommet 297, a £3,999 mixed-wheel enduro bike with 170mm travel damped by Fox Factory suspension

May 2022 · Seb Stott
The Sommet is an easygoing long-travel machine, and it's well spec'd for the price.
Long-travel and active suspension is great for plowing
Geometry strikes a good balance between stability and agility
Good value, especially the other models in the range
Not the most upright climbing position and there's some pedal bob too
XL size needs a higher bar
The suspension isn't as supportive and stable as some bikes

There are three levels of Vitus Sommet 29 and all share the exact same frame with its carbon front end. The Sommet 29 CRS Vitus brings colour to every ride.
Neutral handling, killer build.
No low-speed adjuster on rear shock.

Offers stonking value for money and delivers a controlled, composed ride
Lively, energetic feel
Composed and stable when things get rough
Incredible value includes carbon mainframe frame with top-end kit bolted to it
Doesn’t feel quite as planted or as forgiving as the best in category
Fox 38 can feel a little over-damped for lighter riders

The Vitus Sommet 27 is a long travel enduro bike that has a budget price and big aspirations. The frame is a good platform for an all-mountain or race weapon but there are some questionable spec choices that mean this isn’t as good value as you might first think.
