Summary

The Vitus Mythique is a versatile trail bike that balances performance and value, offering a fun ride with efficient climbing and stable downhill handling. Its suspension provides good small-bump sensitivity and mid-stroke support, though some components like the X-Fusion fork and Shimano brakes may underperform. The bike's geometry and spec make it a great choice for trail centres and technical terrain, though taller riders might find the dropper post travel limiting.

Pros
  • Excellently balanced on most trail types

  • Great small-bump sensitivity and no compression or rebound spike in the Marzocchi fork

  • Competitively priced with solidly-performing parts

  • Updated geometry with steeper seat tube and longer reach for better fit and handling

  • 1x12 drivetrain is a real advantage

Cons
  • Dropper post's 150mm of travel may not be enough for steep downhills

  • X-Fusion fork and Shimano brakes underperform

  • Seat angle is relatively slack

  • Geometry means a compromised ride on both the ups and downs

Key Quotes
The Mythique isn’t perfect, but it strikes an impressive compromise between weight, stiffness, comfort and, importantly, spec.

Vitus Mythique 29 VRS review

May 2020

The Vitus Mythique 29 VRS is a solid performer at the budget end of the scale. The 1x12 drivetrain is a real advantage and the geometry suits whatever kind of riding you fancy, while the tyres are a great spec for UK use. While some components underperform – the X-Fusion fork and Shimano brakes most notably – they're okay for the price. What's more, the Mythique is a bike worth upgrading, and for new riders looking for their first full suspension trail bike (without destroying the bank account), it’s a sensible choice.

Vitus Mythique 29 VR review

Feb 2020 · Alex Evans

A great bike let down by some spec-related flaws. The extra £200 for the VRS model is well worth it because you’re going to have way more fun out on the trails

Highs
  • A great-feeling frame with supple yet supportive suspension

  • Fantastic tyres and brakes

Lows
  • Lacklustre, flexible and underdamped fork lets the ride down

  • Could do with a slacker head angle and steeper seat tube angle

  • Needs a wider range of gears
