Summary
The Trek Rail is a highly capable enduro e-bike praised for its excellent suspension performance, balanced geometry, and powerful Bosch motor. It excels on descents with stable handling and supple, sensitive suspension that offers great small-bump compliance and mid-stroke support. However, some reviews note issues with electronic accessories, motor noise, and component choices that don't always match the bike's high price.
Excellent suspension performance with supple sensitivity and mid-stroke support
Powerful and natural-feeling Bosch motor with smooth power delivery
Balanced geometry that inspires confidence on descents and technical terrain
Stable and composed handling at speed
Good climbing capability with efficient motor assistance
Electronic accessories and Bosch Smart System limitations
Motor noise including whining and clunking
Component choices that don't always match the bike's premium positioning
Short dropper post on larger frame sizes
Tire selection that may not suit all conditions
But once I got it out on the trail, I loved the Rail. It is one of my favorite e-mountain bikes and the best e-all-arounder I've ridden so far.Bicycling
No other bike responds to an active riding style as well as the Rail 7, allowing aggressive riders to push their limits.
The Trek Rail 9 is as rewarding to ride as it is easy to live with. Our E-Bike of the Year.
In a year's time, I haven't had a single bad ride on the Rail

Great performance e-bike, killer motor tune, but so many glitchy electronic accessories.

The Rail 9.9 now has a 750Wh battery and geometry numbers that are similar to the Slash's.

Trek's Rail e-bike platform is smooth, powerful, and successfully walks the line between trail bike and something bigger.

If Tonka did mountain bikes, we reckon they would look a lot like the Trek Rail 9. Pumped up in all directions, the Rail is like a two-wheel linebacker.
Enduro-bike pace and composure coupled with a superb motor
Tyres don’t do the bike justice

Oct 2020 · Berne Broudy
Trek’s long-travel Rail 9.9 soars up climbs and crushes descents, rolling on top-end suspension with electronic shifting and dropper.

Jun 2020 · Knut
The Rail 7 is an alloy bike that costs €5.499. It is the only model in the line-up running the 12-speed Shimano drivetrain.

Mar 2020 · Felix Stix
Does the Trek Rail 7 live up to its name and ride the trails like it's on rails or should we expect severe delays?
Tidy, ergonomic cockpit
Simultaneously composed and agile
Defined yet plush suspension
Super capable on the descents
Confidence-inspiring
Dropper post is too short
Tires only make sense on hard-packed surfaces
Chain slap on the seat stay
