Summary

The Trek Roscoe is celebrated for its fun, versatile ride, making it a standout in the trail category. Its plus tyres enhance grip and comfort, while the modern geometry and suspension setup contribute to confident handling. Despite some critiques on fork performance and component wear, it's praised for being a well-rounded, value-packed hardtail.

Pros
  • Plus tyres boost grip and comfort

  • Fun and versatile, fully-featured package for the price

  • Super-versatile chassis

  • Good package for the price with Shimano gears and a Bontrager dropper

  • Fast-rolling, dual-compound Schwalbe Rocket Ron tyres

Cons
  • Primitive fork damping

  • Shorter stem would give a more agile feel

  • Tyres and rims show stress marks quickly when worked hard

  • Reaches limits of brakes and fork’s compression control on black-rated territory

  • Very slack 71-degree seat angle makes techy climbs challenging

Key Quotes
Trek’s plus-tyred hardtail is a really fun and versatile, fully-featured package for the price.

The Trek X-Caliber (left) likes to fly up hills, while the Roscoe is better at boosting off trail features.

Trek Roscoe 9 first ride review

Jul 2018 · Guy Kesteven

The big tyres also hide the primitive fork damping pretty well, and while the geometry isn’t radical (a 68-degree head angle, 440mm reach and 1,155mm wheelbase on the large), you can properly rag the Trek on natural trails or nurtured red routes.. .

Trek Roscoe 9 review

Apr 2018

Trek's Roscoe 9 marries an aluminium frame with trail riding orientated geometry to chubby 2.8" Plus tyres on 27.5" rims. While it doesn't jam in as much value as direct sales rivals, it more than makes up for that with a fun, refined ride and coherent kit list.
