[Dream Bike] Transition Sentinel

Jun 2020 · Ian Collins

Not all that long ago, I wrapped up a test on the new Transition Sentinel . Turns out, I liked the bike enough that I really, really didn’t want to give it back. So I built it out with a smattering of my favorite parts as of late. As far as the bike itself goes, I love the do-it-all but still have fun spirit the Sentinel has. With 160mm front and 150mm rear travel, rolling on 29 “wheels, it’s no surprising what a capable bike it is, but what surprised me was just how nimble the bike was and how

Bike Review | Transition Sentinel GX

Apr 2020

There’s more than meets the eye with the latest and greatest version of Transition Bikes’ Sentinel. The crisp edges and gentile curves are surely drool-worthy, but if a bike doesn’t ride at least twice as good as it looks, what’s the point? Thankfully, the sorcerers at Transition put the utmost importance on how a bike rides, the reason they’ve gone above and beyond to develop their SBG geometry, adapting their numbers to match the needs of modern-day trail bikes. As for the new Sentinel, the biggest update is an extra 10mm of travel. While this might not seem like much, it brings the bike into a new category of sendability. The steadfast feeling that the company’s bikes are so well known for, simply because it’s perfectly suited to the Northwest, hasn’t wavered, yet they’ve also managed to ramp up the responsiveness and playfulness.

First Ride: The New Transition Sentinel

What do you do to update a bike that was already ahead of its time, like the Transition Sentinel? Not much. And as it turns out, that was just enough.

Review: Transition's New Sentinel V2 - Now With More Travel

Apr 2020 · Mike Kazimer

The Sentinel bumps up to 150mm of travel, along with a new frame shape and updated geometry.

Highs
  • Great all-rounder for riders with the right terrain

  • Relatively light considering the build kit

  • Wide range of sizes, room for long travel dropper posts

Lows
  • Knocking noise from Super Deluxe

  • Water pools up underneath lower shock bolt

  • Not the mini-DH / smash-through-everything bike some riders may be looking for

Transition Sentinel Carbon GX: first ride - MBR

Jul 2019 · Mick Kirkman

The full carbon Transition Sentinel frame looks super slick, and ticks just about every box in the ‘modern geometry’ checklist.

Highs
  • One of a handful of 140mm travel 29ers that are truly Alpine ready

Lows
  • Less urgent and spritely pedalling than plenty similar travel rigs

Transition Sentinel Review

Dec 2018 · Christoph Bayer

The Transition Sentinel is very similar to the competition in terms of travel and weight. In practice, however, the other bikes were not able to keep up.

Highs
  • Unstoppable on demanding tracks

  • Very stable at high speed

  • Great spec

Lows
  • Gets bored on simple trails

  • Requires an active riding style

  • On tight climbs, the front wheel tends to want to flop from side to side

Transition's fresh approach to geometry results in a bike that handles incredibly well, encouraging you to get after it that much harder. It's portly but built to last.
