Summary
The Scott Lumen is a lightweight trail e-MTB praised for its natural ride feel and impressive integration. Its TQ HPR50 motor delivers quiet, seamless power, while the 130mm suspension offers versatility from climbing to descending. However, some component choices and the non-removable battery limit its full trail potential.
Lightweight design
Natural and quiet TQ HPR50 motor
Impressive integration and stealthy looks
Versatile suspension performance
Fun and agile handling on flowing trails
Non-removable battery
Component limitations (e.g., tires, brakes)
High price point
Fiddly cockpit and adjustment issues
Limited descending capability on rough terrain
It feels so much like a regular bike and I dare say that many would have a hard time, if not impossible, to tell that it’s an e-bike when riding it without the assistance.
The SCOTT Lumen eRIDE 900 SL is the Swiss army knife amongst bikes.
For those who don’t want a motor dominating their riding experience, the Lumen will no doubt be an appealing option.
Scott’s new Lumen is a game changer; an e-bike light enough to pass for a regular trail bike, with a motor so subtle it can power you up the climbs and get out of the way for the descents.
The Lumen is a real dark horse and one of the best e-MTBs on the market.

I get the impression that Scott has labelled the Lumen eRide 900 as a cross-country/light trail bike to aid its pursuit of creating one of the lightest e-MTBs around and it’s worked. However, thanks to some solid geometry choices and responsive trail manners, the Lumen is a real dark horse and one of the best e-MTBs on the market. However, some componentry choices hold the bike back.

The SCOTT Lumen eRide 900 SL is a true master of integration and the only e-Downcountry bike in our 2023 Light-eMTB group test.

The Scott e-Spark was introduced all the way back in 2015. It was a full suspension emtb with a 120mm rear suspension and a 130mm travel fork. But this bike disappeared after a few years. Short travel emtbs didn’t really catch on. They were...
