Scott Contessa Scale 710 (2016) review - MBR

Sep 2016 · Mountain Bike Rider

Bold, curvy and built for fun, the Scott Contessa Scale 710 is a perfect playmate for newbies and veterans alike.

Highs
  • Lightweight, compliant frame and excellent RockShox fork.

Lows
  • No clutch in the Shimano XT rear mech to help keep the chain on and prevent it whipping the stays.

Scott Scale 720 Plus review

Aug 2016 · Guy Kesteven

Scott’s agile, lightweight plus-bike crushes conventional hardtails and its own poor spec on rough trails. Buy if you want a lightweight, upgradeable, plus-size hardtail at a great price

Highs
  • Super light, power efficient, agile and upgradeable frame that’ll also take 29er Boost wheels. Schwalbe’s plus tyres add a hovercraft float and rough trail tailwind without stubborn steering

Lows
  • Very poor fork spec for the money (but you can’t actually tell on the trail). The Fox forked, SRAM 1x11 driven 710 Plus is significantly better if you can afford an extra £600

Tested: Scott Scale 720 Plus

Feb 2016

We’ve had a ball riding this thing, one of the few bikes that actually makes you laugh out loud as you blast about the trails with a grin on your face, so forgive us is we repeat ourselves here, we may be using the word ‘fun’ quite a bit. What’s Plus? In a nutshell it’s …

Highs
  • A fun loving hardtail.

  • SO MUCH TRACTION.

  • Beautiful frame.

Lows
  • Needs tubeless tyres and a dropper post badly.

  • Not amazing value.
