2021 eMTB Shootout: Santa Cruz Bullit Review

Mar 2021

The Santa Cruz Bullit absolutely shreds downhills, is fun to ride, inspires you to push hard and eliminates that “I’m on an eBike” feeling.

Highs
  • Doesn’t feel like an eMTB when charging downhill

  • Basher!

  • Confident and fun

  • Climbs great

  • Descends better

Lows
  • It’s too expensive

  • Entry level build still not a good value

  • SRAM brakes

  • Some pedal feedback on flatter trails with square-edge rocks

Review: 2021 Santa Cruz Bullit - The Electrified Freeride Machine

Mar 2021 · Mike Kazimer

The Bullit will get up to speed eye-wateringly fast, and it'll maintain that pace as long as you can keep off the brakes.

Highs
  • Impressive cornering and downhill capabilities

  • Good battery life allows for extended adventures

Lows
  • Suspension layout and motor provide lots of places for mud and grit to get into

  • EP8 motor rattles in rough terrain

2021 Santa Cruz Bullit XT Air - first ride

Jan 2021 · Knut

Santa Cruz just released a new bike with an old name, the Bullit. This bike has got more suspension travel, a longer wheelbase and a slacker head angle compared to the Santa Cruz Heckler. So, the Bullit is a burly bike. Head angle is 64* and suspension travel is 170 mm, front and back. It’s got the new Shimano EP8 motor, and unlike the Heckler it’s got the big 630Wh battery. The bike manufacturers can find it difficult fitting this …

Santa Cruz Bullit X01 RSV review

Nov 2020 · Guy Kesteven

Bullit is back but is Santa Cruz’s Shimano-powered, mixed-wheel 170mm travel play bike on target for tearing up the rowdiest trails with the biggest grin?

Highs
  • Fantastic agility/stability handling balance

  • Super stiff, lightweight chassis

  • Interactive yet impact melting suspension feel

  • Super positive pedaling

  • Ample ground clearance

  • Lifetime frame, bearing and wheel warranty

  • Excellent armoring and servicing details

  • Shimano EP8 motor

  • Full-size 630Wh battery

Lows
  • Premium price

  • No smaller sizes

  • Unproven motor

Santa Cruz Bullit CC X01 RSV review

Nov 2020 · Alex Evans

Big-hitting ebike with plenty of high-speed confidence, but can struggle at slower speeds or on very steep terrain

Highs
  • Exceptionally fast plough bike most at home on flat out trails

  • Great spec choice well suited to the job of high-speed antics

Lows
  • Possible to overwhelm the forks and brakes on steeper trails

  • Seated position is quite aggressive for flat cruising

New Santa Cruz Bullit CC X01 Reserve 2021 in review – The clue’s in the name!

Nov 2020 · Christoph Bayer

The Santa Cruz Bullit is making a comeback and has a Shimano EP8 motor this time around. How does Santa Cruz's new 170 mm eMTB fare on the trail?

Highs
  • Fast and fun on any descent

  • Well-chosen spec

  • Good integration of the Shimano system

Lows
  • Climbs are only a means to an end

  • Background noise downhill

Santa Cruz Bullit CC X01 RSV (2021) first ride review - MBR

Nov 2020 · Danny Milner

The Santa Cruz Bullit is back! Hot on the heels of the Heckler MX is their heaviest hitting e-bike with 170mm travel, Shimano EP8 motor and mullet wheels.

Highs
  • Brilliant blend of heavy-hitting capability with cut and paste direction changes. The e-bike Santa Cruz should have launched from the start.

Lows
  • Not exactly affordable. Feels overdamped for lighter riders.
