Summary
The Rocky Mountain Altitude is a highly versatile enduro bike praised for its adjustable geometry via the RIDE-9 system, offering a customizable ride that excels in both climbing and descending. Its lightweight carbon frame and high-quality suspension components, like the Fox Float X CTD, provide a smooth and efficient ride. However, some reviews note issues with suspension tuning and frame flex, alongside a high price point.
Adjustable geometry via RIDE-9 system
Lightweight carbon-fiber frame
High-quality suspension components
Excellent pedaling efficiency
Great handling through switchbacks
High price point
Stock Fox suspension tune too linear
Some frame flex
Internal cable routing issues
The Altitude pedals so briskly I never felt compelled, even on the steepest of hills, to switch the Fox CTD rear shock into climb mode.
The new Kashima coated components helped transform the Altitude into the ultimate trail weapon.
Few bikes can go straight from the box to the demands of an enduro race or backcountry epics.

Where Andrew & Nice Guy Geoff undertake an actual exercise in min-maxing and Norma's 2014 Rocky Mountain Bikes Altitude gets a new lease on life.

At first glance, I must admit that I was a tad bit disappointed. The hot green striping and electric blue lettering of the Rocky Mountain Altitude 770 MSL Rally instantly brought horrible flashbacks to my first days this past February in my new hometown of Bend, Ore. when my fantastic Denver Broncos took an amazing ride to the Super Bowl and then lost like they were infants.

The Altitude 790 MSL is Rocky Mountain’s first foray into the tweener wheel size and the culmination of a lot of new technology. Designed around the Ride 9 system, which is also available on the Instinct 29ers, it’s a 150mm travel trail bike with several distinct personalities. Over the course of the summer and into …

We already tested the Rocky Mountain Altitude last year. At the request of Fred Glo (organizer of the French Enduro Series, co-founder of the Enduro World Series and French distributor for Rocky Mountain), it will come in a “rally edition” in 2014. There is an uncompromising well-trimmed enduro racing bike hiding behind the rather […]

The 790 MSL is rocky mountain’s top-of-the-line model. It bears a complete carbon-fiber frame that Rocky says weighs just 5.1 pounds. That frame sports ISCG tabs, a 142x12 rear axle and tidy, internal cable routing. Envy-inducing components include a SRAM X0 drivetrain, Avid X0 Trail brakes, a RockShox Reverb Stealth dropper post and Kashima-coated Fox suspension. There isn’t a weak link in this chain, but at nearly $7,000, there shouldn’t be.

The Rocky Mountain Altitude is all-new for 2013, with 650b / 27.5-inch wheels, 150mm of travel, carbon fiber or aluminum frame options, and adjustable geometry. We took a closer look at it at the annual Sea Otter Classic. - Mtbr.com
