Summary
The Ridley Helium is celebrated for its lightweight frame, precise handling, and impressive comfort, making it a standout in the race category. While it excels in performance and aesthetics, some reviews note the need for wheel upgrades to match its high-end nature. Its combination of stiffness, efficiency, and ride quality positions it as a top contender among its peers.
Lightweight frame with improved stiffness
Precise handling and stable cornering
Comfortable ride quality across various surfaces
Understated yet standout aesthetic
Efficient power transfer and quick accelerations
Lower-spec wheels that may require upgrading
Saddle discomfort on longer rides for some users
Higher front-end position may not suit all riders
There is no one standout feature that elevates it above its peers. It’s not the lightest, nor the most aerodynamic, nor the most comfortable, nor the most hi-tech bike on the market, but it has a combination of qualities that blend together to make it greater than the sum of its parts.
Adam Hansen said in no uncertain terms, the Helium SLX is the best bike he has ever ridden
The Helium SLX is more than the sum of its parts, and while the wheels are an obvious blight on its scorecard, they can't mask what is a beautifully handling bike.

Sublime ride quality hampered by mediocre spec. Buy if you want a classic race frame and are prepared to upgrade significantly down the line
The Helium X has all the handling chops and smoothness I’d ever want
It’s just too pricey for the equipment levels

A fantastic bike, that gets near to perfect with a wheelset to match the rest of the build
Greater than the sum of its parts making it one of the best bikes I've ridden
Buyers should budget for an immediate wheel upgrade to get the best from what is already a very good bike

Light, fast and great handling race bike but let down by the wheels
Dec 2014 · Cycle Sport
The Belgian bike brand brings its retro graphics and colour schemes to the mass market with the Helium race bike: a machine with pro peloton looks, but without the premium price tag
It looks like a pro bike, but doesn't cost as much as one
Stiff frame allows good power transfer
Heavier than the team version, but not by much
