Prevelo Zulu Three - 20 Inch Kids Mountain Bike Review

Nov 2024 · Natalie Martins

The Prevelo Zulu Three is a top-notch, trail-worthy mountain bike that will get your kids addicted to biking! Read the full review!

Highs
  • Lightweight at 20.5 lb without pedals, one of the lightest 20" mountain bikes

  • Excellent suspension fork (RST F1RST 80mm travel air fork) that smooths rough chatter

  • Hydraulic disc brakes (Tektro) with 160mm rotors provide reliable stopping power

  • Wide gear range (11-38t cassette) for efficient climbing and descending

  • Slack 66° head tube angle for stable handling on descents

  • Steep 74° seat tube angle for efficient pedaling on climbs

  • Kid-specific components (short-reach levers, easy-pull shifters) work well for small hands

  • Tubeless-ready Kenda Booster Pro 2.2" tires with excellent traction

  • Microshift Advent Super Short Clutch derailleur keeps chain secure

  • UDH compatible for future drivetrain upgrades

  • New frame is lighter than previous generation

Lows
  • Minimum seat height (21.7") results in tight pedal clearance and less efficient pedaling

  • Best fit requires saddle at ~23", limiting suitability for shorter kids

  • Slack geometry slightly compromises climbing efficiency

  • Hydraulic brakes may be too powerful for beginners, requiring learning curve

  • Pedals are standard composite; upgrades recommended for aggressive riding

  • Dropper post not recommended for most kids on 20" bike
