Summary
The Pivot Switchblade is a versatile trail bike praised for its excellent suspension performance, combining supple small-bump compliance with supportive mid-stroke and progressive end-stroke control. It climbs efficiently with strong traction and descends confidently, offering agile handling that inspires riders to push harder. While highly capable across varied terrain, some note its high price and occasional component issues.
Excellent suspension performance with supple small-bump compliance and supportive mid-stroke
Strong climbing efficiency and traction on technical sections
Agile and intuitive handling that inspires confidence
Versatile design with compatibility for multiple wheel sizes and shock options
High-quality carbon frame construction and thoughtful details
High price point for fully equipped builds
Inconsistent brake performance, particularly with Shimano XTR/XT models
Super Boost Plus rear spacing limits component compatibility
Stock suspension tune may be too progressive for some riders
Internal cable routing can be noisy
The Switchblade truly shines when you let it go, a characteristic that edges it closer to the current crop of long-travel 29ers.
Its ability to turn every section of trail into an ultra high definition pop, rip and power through playground is as good - if not better - than any other bike we've ridden.
The ability of the Switchblade to make traction appear seemingly out of nowhere was on full display
It might just be one of, if not the best do-it-all bikes I've ridden.
The Switchblade stands for pure riding pleasure.

The Switchblade lives up to its billing and is a sharp tool for cutting through the trails
Pivot’s Hollow Core carbon frame is one of the lightest in the category
Suspension fork leaves little to be desired
Geometry feels a bit dated
Slightly hectic ride quality

PIVOT SWITCHBLADE PRO XT/XTR 29ER REVIEW IF A SURVIVAL KNIFE WERE A BIKE Words by Mike Wirth | Photos by Katie Jane Photography When Pivot launched their original Switchblade in 2015, it wasn’t actually original at all. At least the name wasn’t. The true OG

The element of “pop” can be tough to describe, but when it’s felt, the definition becomes crystal clear. The Pivot Switchblade is a pop machine, and it’s apparent from the very first pedal stroke. With DW-Link suspension, designed by the guru Dave Weagle himself, there’s no question as to where this indescribable amount of energy comes from, nor is there a question as to how to make the most of it. The Switchblade answers that itself by boosting off every jump and bump in sight. The same fundamentals that make this bike an instrument of antigravity also give it a uniquely agile feel for when it’s on the ground—even if those moments are rare. With short chain stays and a steeper seat-tube angle the Switchblade is a nimble climber that transfers pedal power to traction well, even while out of the saddle.

Can Pivot’s Switchblade really make a £9k price tag seem worth it? Guy Kesteven has been blasting his local test trails in a responsible, solitary fashion to find out
Super clean, precise and efficient but still smooth and grippy
Excellent all round aggro handling balance
Super Gucci XTR/Fox/Reynolds build kit
Delicious frame detailing
Sweet custom air shock but coil shock compatible too.
Very high price
Too progressive for most riders in stock form
Press Fit BB and option limiting Super Boost rear end
XTR brake pad rattle drove us nuts
