Summary
The Orbea Oiz trail bike is praised for its lightweight design, efficient pedaling, and modern geometry that enhances both climbing and descending capabilities. Its suspension performance is noted for being plush and deep-feeling, offering excellent grip and control on rough terrain. However, some reviews mention issues with internal cable routing and a firmer suspension feel on square edge hits.
Lightweight and efficient pedaling
Modern geometry for improved descending
Plush and deep-feeling suspension
Good value for money in the lineup
Customization options under the MyO program
Internal cable routing through the headset
Firmer suspension feel on square edge hits
Rear-end tends to skip under braking
Chain slap noise due to minimal chainstay protection
The 2023 Orbea Oiz still manages to weigh in under 10kg, all while improving stiffness to promote climbing efficiency so you can stay on the gas for longer.
This bike absolutely rips up technical XC trails, offering a plusher ride with more grip over rough terrain.
The Orbea Oiz M21 is a fast and capable cross-country bike with a high-quality OMR carbon frame and a suspension platform matched to the Squidlock remote that helps keep things firm when needed and climbing.

The 2027 Orbea Oiz is a race bike that seems just as much at home on all-day trail rides, making it both fun and fast.
Aesthetics: low slung, sleek, cleanly integrated
Customizable paint via MyO at no extra charge on OMX models
Excellent weight balance for climbing
Planted and solid feel, instills confidence in rough terrain
Bombs downhill like a trail bike
Fits two water bottles on all frame sizes
Easy to carry (room to grab around shock or cyclocross-style)
Pedal-induced movement in open/trail mode may require lockout for racers
Squidlock remote difficult to reach bottom lever, position not adjustable enough
Flight Attendant default is 'Firm' which lessens all-day comfort
Flight Attendant adds two batteries to worry about

A little lighter, a little stiffer - the new Oiz is aimed squarely at the cross-country crowd.
Revised linkage increased stiffness and saved 30% weight over previous linkage
Reduced number of abrupt transitions in carbon layup improves strength-to-weight ratio
New flared top tube shape increases stiffness
Frame weight competitive (claimed 1480g without shock, 1700g with shock)
Room for two water bottles inside front triangle
SquidLock remote with two levers for dropper post and suspension modes
Multi-tool holder for easy access
Slightly regressive suspension curve for pedaling efficiency with enough progression
Geometry fine-tuned for better responsiveness and acceleration
Thru-headset cable routing is annoying
Frame not as light as Specialized Epic 9 (claimed 1345g frame only, 1580g with shock)

The Orbea Oiz M21 might be the brand’s entry-level carbon cross-country bike, but it’s far from basic. With impressive performance and solid componentry, it’s a capable machine for riders looking to push their limits. Some quirks and areas would welcome improvements, but the Oiz M21 still delivers a fast and efficient ride, both uphill and down. Featuring a brand new frame and updated geometry for 2023, the Orbea Oiz is a lightweight XC bike that's optimised around 120mm of travel.
Lightweight, elegant full carbon frame
Plush & deep-feeling suspension
Fantastic geometry boosts descending capability
Squidlock delivers useful on-the-fly adaptability
Headset cable routing
Not the quietest bike
Heavy & sluggish dropper post
Limited clearance for 2nd bottle

Add extra travel to longer geometry and you've got a recipe for downhill success. Orbea has avoided compromising uphill performance, too
Extra travel gives you a get out of jail free card
Geometry is at the forefront of XC design
Fast, up and down
Customisable spec and paint are nice options to have
Squidlock is a little messy on the bars
Super-racey rubber doesn't always inspire confidence
