Summary

The Mondraker Crafty is a high-performance enduro eMTB that excels in stability and traction, making it a favorite among aggressive riders for technical terrain. Its Bosch Performance Line CX motor and 750Wh battery provide powerful assistance, while the Ohlins or Fox suspension components ensure precise handling. However, its weight and long wheelbase can make it less nimble for some riders, and the SRAM G2 R brakes are often cited as inadequate.

Pros
  • Excellent geometry and stability

  • Powerful Bosch Performance Line CX motor

  • High-capacity 750Wh battery

  • Precise handling with Ohlins or Fox suspension

  • Good traction and confidence on technical terrain

Cons
  • Heavy weight and long wheelbase reduce agility

  • SRAM G2 R brakes lack stopping power

  • Fixed battery design limits flexibility

  • Some models have a steep head angle

  • Overdamped shock tuning on some models

Key Quotes
Mondraker has done a typically awesome job of marrying up two seemingly conflicting characteristics in the Crafty XR.
Bike Perfect logoBike Perfect
The Race Motor puts the Crafty XR LTD at the top of the pile, pitching it as Mondraker’s top offering for Enduro eMTB racing.
Bikerumor logoBikerumor
The Crafty probably isn’t for everyone. Smaller or more timid riders will find it hard to muscle the bike around and ride it dynamically. But for taller, more aggressive riders its stability and traction make it easy to ride technical terrain flat out.

2022/23 Mondraker Crafty Carbon - a short review

May 2023 · Knut Nes

Bosch delivered a prototype bike so we could finally test the Bosch Performance CX Race motor. Attached to that motor was a Mondraker Crafty Carbon. The specs don’t correspond to any of the 2023 models, so we’ll just call it the Crafty. Riding...

Mondraker Crafty Carbon XR MIND: first ride review - MBR

Sep 2021 · Alan Muldoon

Mondraker Crafty Carbon XR with built-in MIND suspension data acquisition. Yep, integrated data-logging comes to mountain biking courtesy of Mondraker.

Highs
  • The myMondraker app provides a user friendly step-by-step guide to suspension set-up on your phone. MIND provides real world data on how you’re using the travel, which makes fine tuning your ride a breeze. Pins on the GPS trace indicate air time and you can instantly see how often you bottom-out the suspension. And while it doesn’t offer comprehensive data, it’s an affordable and easy-to-use system.

Lows
  • Currently MIND offers no data on shaft speed, which means you have no info to adjust damping. Rechargeable batteries drain quickly. Waiting for a GPS signal gets frustrating.

Mondraker Crafty R 29 review

Jan 2021 · Seb Stott

Easy to ride fast over technical terrain, but hard to handle on tamer trails and brakes let it down

Highs
  • Super-stable when riding fast, with excellent cornering grip

  • Highly capable uphill thanks to powerful motor and good weight distribution

Lows
  • High weight and long wheelbase make it hard to move around

  • I’d upgrade the brakes ASAP
