Summary
The Mondraker Dune is a mixed bag, offering stability and composed geometry at high speeds, with a suspension that tames rough terrain effectively. However, its long length can make it feel unwieldy, and it comes with a premium price tag that doesn't always match the component quality. It's a bike that demands rider adjustment and planning, excelling in fast, rough conditions but less so in slow, technical terrain.
Stable and composed at high speeds
Effective suspension on rough terrain
Good traction and smoothness
Decent climbing ability
Cutting-edge geometry and sizing
Feels unwieldy due to long length
Premium price without high-end parts
Requires significant rider adjustment
Sluggish suspension in some models
Outdated dropout spacing and teething problems
It gains speed quickly, I was going into corners really, really quickly, which was messing me up—’Where are my braking points, I haven’t even started to turn yet?’
The Mondraker Dune is one of our Bike of the Year bikes for 2018.
Proves that good geometry and sizing stands the test of time

Launched over three years ago, the Mondraker Dune XR is still streets ahead of its rivals in terms of sizing, our size L dwarfing most brands XXLs.

This bike is long. Sure, there’s more to it, like its especially supportive suspension platform. But mostly, it’s long. And once we got used to that, we found it could hold its corners and stick its lines superbly.

Though the Dune's spec isn't the best value for the cash, its composed ride characteristic and confident handling make it a blast on the trail. Buy if the stretched out geometry and well-balanced suspension matter more to you than the relatively cheap spec considering the asking price
Composed geometry that feels great at speed
Supportive, well-balanced suspension
Feels solid and very capable
We'd have hoped for better brakes and tyres at this price
Bottom bracket could be lower
