Merida eSilex+ 600 gravel bike review

Sep 2021 · Guy Kesteven

Merida’s eSilex+ 600 gravel bike doesn’t look like a power-assisted bike but does the Mahle motor help or hinder performance and handling?

Highs
  • Super-smooth cruising manners

  • Upright riding position and relaxed handling to match

  • Quiet, subtle hub motor assist

  • Low weight reduces riding effort

  • Slim 'secret battery' frame

  • Range extender double-capacity option

  • Loads of bottle and cargo mounts

  • Great value for a shop-bought bike

  • Conventional width crankset

  • Comprehensive 'ebikemotion' app

Lows
  • Limited control on rougher terrain

  • Easy to overpower the motor

  • Restricted 700c tyre space

First ride review: MERIDA eSILEX+ 600 – A breeze of tailwind for your next adventure

Dec 2020 · Philipp Schwab

With its versatile frame platform, the MERIDA eSILEX+ 600 with MAHLE hub-drive looks promising – at least on the paper. How did the bike fare in our test?

Highs
  • Very composed

  • Compact, upright riding position

  • Good self-damping qualities of the overall system (bike and components)

  • Highly suitable for everyday use thanks to the many mounts for bottles, mudguards and pannier racks

  • Visually discreet motor integration

Lows
  • Motor lacks power on steep climbs

  • Poor control on demanding terrain
