Summary
The Marin Alpine is a versatile enduro bike that excels on descents with stable, confident handling and effective suspension. It offers great value for money, balancing modern geometry and capable performance across various trail conditions. While it climbs adequately for its weight, it shines most when gravity takes over.
Stable and confident handling on descents
Great value for money with quality components
Effective suspension performance
Versatile for enduro and trail riding
Modern geometry that inspires confidence
Heavy weight affects climbing efficiency
Brakes may lack power compared to premium options
Tires can be squirmy on hard surfaces
The Alpine Trail 8 is a competent climber and a thrilling descender that straddles the line between enduro bike and trail bike.Bicycling
I was quietly blown away by just how well the suspension on the Alpine Trail 8 worked, and how well it handled, most of the time.
By keeping it simple and focussing on the things that ultimately matter – ride quality and handling – Marin has produced a bike that’s more than the sum of its parts.
Great geometry and contemporary handling should not be restricted to high-priced superbikes. Marin gets it.Pinkbike

Modern numbers, sharp handling, lots of suspension travel and 29-inch wheels for under $3,000.
Good climber for a 33-pound, 150mm bike
Solid, we-can-do-this handling
Contemporary geometry
Tires miss the mark
Restricted seatpost insertion depth

Marin's high-value, high-speed long-travel 29er, the Alpine Trail 8, doesn't do every little thing perfectly. Just most little things.

Do you ever wonder why the suspension kinematics of lower-priced bikes doesn't match the effort going into higher priced platforms....

Standover height and dropper-post compatibility have been key criteria for Marin and I see low seat-tube heights across the size range, but deep seat-tube bores, allowing riders to run long travel dropper posts (a 160mm KS Lev Integra post is spec’d on all but the smallest size of Alpine Trail 8).. .

The name of the new Marin Alpine Trail says it all; according to the American brand, this bike is meant for good times in alpine terrain, with particular emphasis on the descents. With modern geometry, 150 mm of travel and 29″ wheels, it promises to be a lot of fun. So we’ve taken a closer […]

The new Marin Alpine Trail 150mm travel 29er might look generic from the side, but jump on board and it’s anything but run of the mill.
No frills design; big thrills ride quality
Tektro brakes and Vee tires an unknown quantity as they weren’t fitted to our demo bike
