Oct 2025 · Jeremy Benson
Kona drops new, more affordable aluminum-framed versions of its popular Hei Hei MTB and Libre gravel models.

Sep 2025 · Dario DiGiulio
The newest Hei Hei pushes further into the trail bike world, but some of its XC roots are still evident out on the trail.
Silent on trail
Well-appointed frame details
Keeps things fun
XC geometry, trail bike intentions
Heavy build weight
Lacks composure in rougher terrain

Sep 2025
Kona's 10th Generation Hei Hei ditches the flex stay and welcomes more travel to become the perfect back country companion.
Agile handling and lively ride
Capable descending for its travel
Plush suspension with good small bump compliance
Stiff chassis with good torsional stiffness
Solid build with top-end suspension
Good climbing traction on technical terrain
Comfortable seated pedalling position
Versatile for after-work laps and backcountry
Creak from forward shock mount bolt (sample issue)
Seat tube angle too slack on steep climbs
Appreciable pedal bob on smooth climbs
Stock WTB rims have poor reputation
Weight over 30 lbs, not competitive with XC race bikes
Lower stack requires high-rise bar for some riders
Cable routing bulges out, potential foot interference

Find our 2025 Kona Hei Hei review here after several months of singletrack, gravel, and loaded bikepacking where Kona was born...
Responsive and entertaining ride quality on all types of terrain
Fast like an XC bike but not a one-headed beast
Perfect mix of fast and stable, making for a perfect ultra-distance race bike or lightweight bikepacking rig
Large main triangle and plenty of mounting points for bolt-on cargo/bags
Extra space above the rear shock makes a perfect handle
Single build kit offers decent bang for your buck despite being expensive
Only one complete build kit (for now)
Expensive
Press-fit bottom bracket
Size jump between large and extra-large frame is awkward
Headtube cable routing/ports can be tricky for some handlebar bags
Mar 2021 · Mike Ferrentino
Think 120mm of travel is overkill for an XC race weapon? Think again.
Light
Snappy
Fast
Not as plush as similar travel linkage bikes
A bit squirrely at high speed
Cable management could be more sano
