Knolly Tyaughton Titanium Hardtail Review

Nov 2022

Diving into Knolly's Titanium Hardtail after some time spent on the steel version...

Highs
  • Ti frame weighs 2 lbs less than steel

  • Larger diameter top and down tubes for stiffness

  • Excellent welds

  • Rides like steel version but lighter

  • Painted on logos and masked sandblasting look good

  • 31.6mm seatpost compatible with AXS Reverb

  • Internal dropper routing with access hatch

  • Cool headbadge

  • Rear brake mount and brace are beautifully designed

  • Fox 36 up front works well

Lows
  • Internal dropper routing may cause friction over time

  • SDG Tellis seatpost cable end lost grip during installation

  • Bare chainstay looks and sounds bad; no rubber sleeve

  • Stock Raceface Next R bars too stiff; 60mm stem too long

  • Cable noise from internal dropper routing

  • Expensive ($7900 CAD for XT build)

  • 157 rear spacing is polarizing

  • Tire spec (MaxTerra DHF front, 2.3 DHR II rear) not ideal for Shore riding
