Tested: Intense Recluse Elite

At face value, the concept behind the new Intense Recluse seems clear, obvious even, though I can’t think of many bikes that succeed so well in combining a quick and nimble trail bike chassis with such assertive all-mountain/enduro geometry and robust build kit options. Picking up a Recluse is like purchasing a 450 HP Ford F-150 Raptor over a stock pickup, only much cooler, really.

Intense Recluse Elite review

Jan 2017 · Guy Kesteven

Potentially great, well shaped, power friendly frame with some sweet kit but disappointing suspension

Highs
  • Super-stiff, long and relatively light chassis

  • Classic tough trail kit plus Intense’s own wide carbon rims

Lows
  • Power-focused suspension struggles over both smaller and larger hits

  • ‘Performance’ grade shock and fork exacerbate suspension and pitch issue
