Summary

The Giant Revolt is a versatile gravel bike praised for its comfort, stable handling, and value. It excels on a variety of surfaces with its D-Fuse components enhancing ride quality, though some models may feel heavy or lack tire versatility in muddy conditions. The bike is often compared favorably to competitors like the Specialized Diverge and Trek Checkpoint.

Pros
  • Comfortable on long rides with D-Fuse seatpost and handlebar

  • Stable yet responsive handling

  • Good value for the price

  • Versatile for commuting, gravel, and bikepacking

  • Quality alloy frame with carbon fork on some models

Cons
  • Heavier than some competitors

  • Tires may not perform well in very muddy conditions

  • Limited upgrade options due to frame-specific components

It’s the Toyota Camry of budget gravel bikes. Completely reliable, functional, and predictable, but without a single feature that would really make you want it.

The Giant Revolt 0 has the ability to reignite that childlike passion, and indeed to rekindle the flame of freedom that cycling offers at every stage in our two-wheeled education.

GIANT Revolt Advanced 0 gravel bike on test

May 2022 · By

Thanks to a flip-chip in the dropouts, the wheelbase of the GIANT Revolt Advanced 0 can be adjusted by one centimetre. This affects both handling and tire clearance. A direct comparison with 18 of the best gravel bikes of the year shows whether this and the mechanical 2x11 Shimano drivetrain make the bike good enough all-round to beat the competition.

Highs
  • Predictable handling

  • You can tune the handling by adjusting the flip-chip

  • Plenty of mounting points

  • Dropper post compatible

Lows
  • Operation of the seat post clamp

  • Handlebar isn’t flared and the drops are too short

Bike Perfect
Giant Revolt Advanced 0 gravel bike review – lighter and faster than ever

May 2022 · Guy Kesteven

Giant’s much loved soft-road gravel bike gets bigger tires, a smoother ride and more versatility, while losing weight

Highs
  • Super-smooth frame, post and bars

  • Light and quietly super-quick frame and wheels

  • Loads of bottle, rack, fender and bag mounts

  • 53mm tire clearance

  • Close spaced gears and powerful brakes

Lows
  • Receptor tires are terrifying without adding speed

  • Stock steering is borderline sketchy off-road

  • No single ring options on any Revolt

The new Revolt is all about evolution not revolution, and that is a wholly good thing

Versatile design also includes rack and fender mounts, and a refreshing dearth of proprietary bits.

Highs
  • Super comfortable ride, low weight, progressive-enough frame geometry, strong track record for quality frame construction.

Lows
  • Questionable headset and spacer shaping, polarizing bar bend, questionable tire choice, could be stiffer up front.
