Summary

The Giant TCR is celebrated for its exceptional handling, efficiency, and climbing prowess, making it a standout in the race bike category. It combines lightweight construction with aerodynamic improvements, offering a ride that's both stiff and surprisingly comfortable. While it excels in performance and value, some riders may find its aggressive geometry and certain design choices less appealing.

Pros
  • Exceptional handling and agility

  • Lightweight and aerodynamic design

  • Efficient power transfer and climbing ability

  • Comfortable ride quality for a race bike

  • Good value for money across various price points

Cons
  • Aggressive geometry may not suit all riders

  • Some design choices like external cable routing and integrated seatpost limit adjustability

  • Stock tires and certain components may require upgrades

Key Quotes
"The performance of this bike is worth the stack. It’s impressive that this bike – with Giant’s second-tier composite formula used in the frame – is on par, and even better, than some top-end models from other companies that cost more than twice the price."

"Ultimately it’s a fantastic bike."

"The TCR is easily one of the best climbing bikes available."

"It’s fast, fun, and sleek, and while I wouldn’t recommend this bike to everyone given the ultra-responsive handling, it’s an ideal race bike — for climbers especially."

There's a whole lot of value (and plenty to love) in this mid-tier racer.

Highs
  • Well-rounded attitude and ride quality, low weight, simple servicing, included power meter, wheelset quality, new Fleet saddle, a lot of bike for the money.

Lows
  • Reach (including stock stem) on the long side, some flex in front-centre of frame, compatibility issues of hookless rims, thru-axle handle rattles, press-fit bottom bracket (although Giant do theirs with great tolerances).

Giant TCR Advanced SL 0 review

Jun 2020 · Josh Croxton

The latest race bike from Giant claims to offer class-leading aerodynamics, weight and stiffness. We take a look at how that translates to real-world riding

Highs
  • Weight (sub 7kg, size large)

  • It holds speed over flat and rolling ground well

  • Power transfer is similar to a dedicated aero bike

Lows
  • Handling confidence takes time to build

  • The integrated seatpost makes flying with the TCR difficult, but not impossible

  • No Shimano builds available at Advanced SL level
