Introduced as a budget alternative to the popular Trance 29, the Giant Stance 29 is an entry-level full suspension trail bike that packs in a lot of the right ingredients. After several months of testing, we discovered that it isn't perfect though. Read on for our full review of the Giant Stance 29 2.
Supple suspension performance
Comfortable & compliant ride quality
Usefully low-gearing
Smooth & reliable Shimano brakes
A lot of bike for the money
Quick release dropouts limit upgrade potential
Rear-end flex may be an issue for heavier riders
Handlebars are far too narrow
Effective seat angle is quite slack

The Giant Stance 29-1 feels like a bike that should cost more than it does. It has real value when it comes to ride quality and performance. Read our full review here to see why the Giant Stance is an excellent affordable mountain bike.

Price is one of the biggest barriers preventing people from getting into the sport of mountain biking, but that is likely to change with companies like...
12-speed drivetrain
Balanced suspension
Stealthy looks
Solid all-around performance
No dropper post
Non-aggressive tires

It’s been three years since we last tested the Giant Stance and a lot has changed in that time. For starters, the price has shot up by £400.
Fun, fast and efficiently
Chain rattle is deafening

Fork, shock and gearing undermine the Stance 2’s potential, but it’s a good starting point
Supportive suspension for rowdy riding
Dropper post helps you maintain your flow
Comes set up tubeless as stock
2x drivetrain causes issues
Geometry isn’t going to set the world alight

Normally, choosing an affordable mountain bike means getting stuck with an outdated drivetrain, sub-standard frame geometry and/or undergunned suspension. Apparently, the Giant Stance 29 is not normal.

This awesome-riding bike has great parts, and it happens to be a great value too.
